The Southeastern Conference of the NCAA is one of the notable conferences in all of college athletics. In an SEC Expansion, which teams would benefit Kentucky the most?

Matthew Bartlett over at Gig Em Gazette offered a great list of possible SEC Expansion teams that make the most sense of being added to the conference. Kentucky Football and Kentucky Basketball both could benefit from a number of those possibilities.

From the football side of things, a few of the teams on the list make sense to increase the overall strength of the conference. The harsh reality is, whoever makes the cut as a new expansion team will have to have an established football program that has the ability to bring in revenue as their respective school’s top flight program. Football takes a front seat in the SEC and there’s no getting around it.

Additionally, on the basketball side of the conference, Kentucky takes the top spot. Adding another top tier program that can give the conference some “beef” would be beneficial to all involved. In his article, Bartlett claims that at least two new schools may enter the SEC. I would venture to add to that and say that it would be wise to include a new school that would fit in both the East and West division respectively.

So, in response to Bartlett’s list of possibilities, here’s the top five picks from the list that make the most sense when it comes to benefiting Kentucky.
