This pick was a close one for me. On one hand, you have a player like Derrick Jasper who ranked 38th in the 2006 class (according to rivals.com) and Jarrod Polson, who was a very serviceable walk-on during his time at Kentucky.

While at Kentucky, we had brief glimpses into Derrick Jasper’s gifted ability, but unfortunately a serious knee injury sidelined him. He also had an unsuccessful coach in Billy Gillispie, which may have been another reason he transferred. His career stats at Kentucky included 3.9 PPG, 2.7 APG, and 4.2 RPG.

Derrick Jasper transferred from the University of Kentucky after the 2008 season. Jasper landed in the desert at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). As a Running Rebel, Jasper finished out his collegiate playing career while averaging 5.7 PPG and 4.5 RPG.

Jasper spent a number of seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Tech under both coach Billy Gillespie and Tubby Smith. As of July, 2016, Jasper accepted the head coaching position at Paso Robles High School, his alma mater.
