Kentucky Football: Top 10 Performers of 2016
Austin MacGinnis has ice water running through his veins
The Wildcats place kicker had a heck of a season. In 2016, MacGinnis converted on 16 of 19 field goals for an 84.2 percentage. MacGinnis also made 44 of 45 PAT’s last season as well. Austin was responsible for 92 of the Wildcats 390 total points scored in 2016.
MacGinnis will be entering his Senior season for the Wildcats. His career so far has been highlighted by a few big moments. With two game winning field goals in 2016, MacGinnis deserves a spot on our top performers list by those two kicks alone.
Taking down the Heisman Winner
Late in the game at Louisville, Lamar Jackson fumbled the football turning it over to the Wildcats. Tied at 38-38, Kentucky would drive the field to set up a 47-yard field goal attempt with just ticks left on the clock. The Alabama native drilled the kick through the uprights to lift the Kentucky Wildcats past the Louisville Cardinals in one of the biggest upsets of the College Football season.
MacGinnis also lifted the Cats past Mississippi state in a thriller at Commonwealth. The Kentucky Junior drilled a 51-yarder down the pipe as time expired to defeat the Bulldogs on October 22, 2016. MacGinnis finished the season 5 of 6 from field goals greater than 40 yards. The Wildcats could count on this kid late in games.
