The Ultimate Defender

Anthony Davis will go down in history as one of the top shot-blockers in Kentucky Basketball history. As the key component of John Calipari’s lone National Title, Davis swatted away 186 shots in his single season wearing a Kentucky Uniform. That ranks first all-time in Kentucky Basketball History blocked shots in a single season. With only one season in Lexington, Davis blocked enough shots to still be listed as the sixth overall block total for a career at Kentucky.

On the year, Davis poured in 14.2 PPG, pulled down 10.4 RPB and averaged nearly five rejections each contest. A true rim protector with a massive wingspan allowed John Calipari’s team to relish the one shining moment.

Season Awards

Anthony Davis finished the season sweeping every player of the year category. The list goes on and on:

  • AP Player of The Year
  • Consensus First Team All-American
  • Defensive Player of the Year
  • Naismith Award Winner
  • NCAA  Tournament Most Outstanding Player
  • SEC Player of the Year
  • USBWA Freshman of the Year
  • USBWA Player of the Year
  • Sporting News Player of the Year
  • Wooden Award Winner

The accolades speak for themselves, there is no debate. Anthony Davis will be on John Calipari’s all time team no matter who else rolls through.
