Schedule Isn’t Setting the Table

Unless Kentucky runs the table the rest of regular season, a No.1 seed in the Big Dance is probably out of reach. It will take that type of run or some of top teams going on a slide for that seeding to happen.

The rest of the SEC schedule just isn’t going to present many opportunities for big wins. And tonight marks the second high-profile home loss of the season. After falling to UCLA in Rupp Arena in December, the Cats didn’t need another such setback.

Plenty of teams, including previous editions of Cal’s Cats, have gone far in the tournament despite not being a No.1 seed. But a seeding most Kentucky fans had been very confident this season is almost certainly out of reach now.

The sky isn’t falling and Kentucky has lost home games before, but the loss tonight hurts. Hopefully the Wildcats will bounce back on Tuesday night when the Georgia Bulldogs come to Rupp Arena, in what will be longtime broadcaster Brent Musburger’s final game.
