Defense is a Concern

This is a bad defensive team and that fact doesn’t make sense. Guards De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk have great length and quickness. The Wildcats should not be beaten on straight line drives as often as is the case.

Bam Adebayo is a beast, but he gets caught in a bad switch on a quicker opponent far too often as well. What is really troubling about the defense is that it seems to be getting worse as the season goes on.

This past Tuesday night in Knoxville the Cats were making a late comeback against Tennessee. But coming out of a timeout they were badly beaten on defense on an inbounds play under the basket.  And just a little bit later it happened again.

Being out-coached by Rick Barnes qualifies as an “ouch”. Tonight, the Cats had all kinds of trouble on offense after Bill Self switched Kansas to a zone. And as mentioned above, Kentucky’s defense seems to be getting worse instead of better. Cal has some work to do in the coming weeks.
