Kentucky football will unveil a new matte blue helmet against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Check out what your Wildcats will be wearing!

No phrase is more played out in the age of social media than, “New year, new me.” The Kentucky football is embracing that cliche, however, as head coach Mark Stoops creates an entirely new identity in Lexington.

The new-look Kentucky Wildcats are living up to that title in more ways than one.

Kentucky will open the 2016 college football season against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. With a chance to start the season in front of the home crowd, the Wildcats have decided to unveil a new aesthetic.

According to the Kentucky football Twitter account, the crisp blue jerseys will be complemented by a debuting matte blue helmet.

To paraphrase the eternal Deion Sanders: Look good, feel good, play good.

The Wildcats’ new look can be seen throughout the program. The most obvious change will be to the uniform they wear, with a gorgeous matte blue helmet now matching the jerseys.

Kentucky is changing its look on the depth chart, as well.

Patrick Towles was the full-time starting quarterback for Kentucky in each of the past two seasons. During that time, he threw for a combined 4,866 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions while accumulating a record of 9-14 in the games he played.

Change occurred when Towles transferred to Boston College after his heir apparent usurped him on the depth chart towards the end of the 2016 season.

Sophomore quarterback Drew Barker will be the new field general for the starving Kentucky football program. Having not made a bowl game appearance since 2010, he’s facing immeasurable pressure.

Coupled with the arrival and emergence of countless playmakers on both sides of the ball, Kentucky isn’t the team that it used to be.
