Kentucky Football: Offensive Players Who Will Shine In 2016
Ryan Timmons
Position: Wide Receiver
Class: Senior
Height & Weight: 5’10” & 198 pounds
2015 Season Statistics: 12 receptions, 114 yards, 1 touchdown
There’s an admitted sense of optimism in the inclusion of senior wide receiver Ryan Timmons. Kentucky football has been waiting on Timmons’ breakout season since he first arrived as a high school standout who accumulated 1,000-plus rushing and receiving yards.
Timmons appears to have finally found the quarterback who will help him do so in sophomore Drew Barker.
Barker’s one and only touchdown pass in 2015 went to Timmons—his only touchdown reception. The two also linked up for a touchdown during the spring game, which further displayed how much Barker trusts his senior wideout.
Head coach Mark Stoops is ready for Timmons to finally break out. Per Jon Hale of The Courier-Journal:
"“Somebody asked me a week or two ago who’s been the most pleasant surprise, and I’d say [Timmons is] definitely one of them,” Stoops said. “I’ll have to make sure I tell him don’t make me regret that. So, I don’t want to see him take a step back, but he’s really done some good things.”"
After recording 77 receptions through his first two seasons and just 12 as a junior, Timmons certainly has something to prove.
With high expectations and just one season to prove himself as a potential pro-level player, Timmons will need to shine. His quarterback seems to believe in him, and his freedom on offense will create new opportunities.
With more freedom when running routes, expect Timmons to be one of the most exciting offensive players on the roster.
