Defensive Potential

When a player is as big, powerful, and athletic as Bam Adebayo, the defensive potential will inevitably turn heads. There’s no guaranteeing that he’ll thrive from Day 1, but he certainly has the tools to do so.

The great news for both Kentucky Wildcats fans and NBA general managers is that John Calipari is the perfect coach to help Adebayo maintain defensive intensity.

Adebayo’s wingspan appears to be in the 7’0″ range, which adds to his already impressive physical profile. A fleet of foot power forward standing between 6’9″ and 6’10” with a powerful frame, he’s built to be a dominant post defender.

With explosive leaping ability, it stands to reason that Adebayo could develop into a productive shot-blocker, as well.

The most appealing aspect of Adebayo’s defensive potential is that he’s athletic enough to switch on the pick-and-roll. That’s as valuable a trait as any for an NBA big man, and it’s just as true in the college game.

Kentucky basketball needs a defensive enforcer. Adebayo could become that player in 2016-17.
