Rebounding

The modern era has watered down the beauty and complexity of rebounding. Those who understand how much more there is to rebounding than size and athleticism, however, tend to truly dominate the boards.

Adebayo’s high school coach, Brandon Clifford, is in awe of the 19-year-old’s uncanny ability to control the game as a rebounder. Per Larry Vaught of Lex18.com.

"“…what makes him such a good rebounder is that he just has an instinct to kind of read the basketball. He reads it off the rim and pursues it like every rebound is his,” Clifford said."

That’s Dennis Rodman-esque.

Rodman famously studied the spin of the ball to better anticipate how it’d come off of the rim. Adebayo appears to be doing something similar, which is yet another example of why he’s held in such high regard.

Adebayo isn’t just a freak athlete with a powerful build and prototypical size for a power forward; he’s a thinker.

Adebayo needs to be more consistent in the way he boxes out, but he has the mental aspect of rebounding down. He also has the physical aspect down in the sense that he is relentless in his pursuit of the ball.

If Adebayo further embraces the lost art of boxing out, he’ll become a nightly double-double threat.
