Kentucky Wildcats 73, Louisville Cardinals 66

It’s always fun to beat the reigning National Champions, especially when you didn’t even make it into the NCAA Tournament the previous season. However, it’s even better when you’re the Kentucky Wildcats and beat the Louisville Cardinals, the 2013 reigning National Champions.

The game took place at Rupp Arena and the Kentucky Wildcats already had three losses under their belt. They were ranked #18 and the Louisville Cardinals were ranked #6. It looked almost too easy for the Cardinals. It looked like they would run away with the win and had the Wildcats their fourth loss of the season.

However, the Wildcats had other plans and pulled out the 73-66 win as the underdog. The Wildcats were led with 24 points and seven assists by James Young. At this point of the season, even though it was only the end of December, if you told Kentucky fans they’d beat the Cardinals AND make it to the National Championship game, they would have laughed in your face.

Pulling out the win against the Cardinals proved just what the Wildcats were made of this season. This season was by far one of John Calipari’s best coaching jobs. That’s what makes this win so special.
