12. Ron Mercer

Like many other Wildcats, Ron Mercer also had the title of his state’s Mr. Basketball. He was the 1993 and 1994 Mr. Basketball in the state of Tennessee.

Mercer collegiate career was quite successful. Mercer was named an All-American and all-Southeastern Conference player at Kentucky, and part of the 1996 National Championship team his freshman year. He was also a part of the 1997 Kentucky Wildcats team, another team to come so close to the championship but fate just got in the way.

Like many other Wildcats, Mercer also called a few teams home during his tenure in the NBA. He was the 6th overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft. Take a look:

Mercer was an NBA Champion with the Boston Celtics in 1998. He was reunited with his collegiate head coach, Rick Pitino when he joined the Boston Celtics in 1997.
