Travis Ford, the current head coach for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, transferred to the University of Kentucky from the University of Missouri, was a homegrown kid from Madisonville, Kentucky. His first season with the Wildcats was somewhat of a bust, he didn’t see much playing time and saw quite a bit of time on the bench. However, all of that changed for his junior and senior season.
During his junior and senior season with the Wildcats, Ford set single-season records with 15 assists in a game, 101 made three pointers and 50 consecutive free-throws made. With all of this one his resume, Ford was named to the All-SEC team in both his junior and senior season. Ford was also recognized as the Most Outstanding Player in the 1993 NCAA Tournament.
Ford’s NBA career was basically non-existent, but he did try. Nothing came out of it, so he got into coaching.
Ford starting his coaching career with Campbellsville University, a small, private college in Kentucky. He was there from 1997-2000.
Following his tenure at Campbellsville, he took a head coaching position a couple of miles from his alma mater at Eastern Kentucky University where he was until 2005.
After that, he took his coaching career to the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he was until 2008. After the 2007-08 season, Ford took the head coach position at Oklahoma State, where he still remains today.
