22. Georgia Bulldogs vs Kentucky Wildcats
(14-15)
This game looked as if it was going to be the first loss of the season for the Kentucky Wildcats. Nothing was going their way and the Georgia Bulldogs were absolutely having their way. It was the second meeting with the Bulldogs, the first one ending 58-69, so the Wildcats knew the Bulldogs could keep up.
Facing their largest second-half deficit of the season the Wildcats pulled off a late 14-0 run to beat the Bulldogs 72 to 64. Georgia’s Yante Maten tipped in a miss of his own shot on the second attempt to put the Bulldogs up 56 to 47 with just over 9 minutes remaining. Karl-Anthony Towns and Aaron Harrison combined for 12 of the 14 points during the Wildcats time-of-need. Towns had seven, including a three-point play with 2:53 left that put Kentucky in the lead, where they stayed for the remainder of the game. Willie Cauley-Stein came up with a huge dunk off a missed free throw to give the Wildcats a four-point play to put the exclamation mark on the end.
The Wildcats were led by Towns’ 19 points and 7 rebounds, combined with Tyler Ulis’ 4 assists.
The Bulldogs gave the Wildcats a huge scare, but gave the Wildcats the ability to prove to themselves they can get out of scary situations and pull out the win.
