21. Louisville Cardinals vs Kentucky Wildcats

(14-15)

This game can be summed up with the Chris Jones’ flop and the Tyler Ulis bloody face.

The Kentucky-Louisville game is always a close game, both teams fighting with all that they have. It was their first road test of the season and it happened right after going home for the holidays. So anything could happen at this point.

The Cardinals were ranked #4 and the Wildcats #1, so both teams had a plethora of talent and experience. It’s not like they don’t play each other every season.

While it’s a bigger game for the fans than it is for the players, players feed off the fans. It was a hostile environment for the Wildcats, their first one of the season. Louisville fans hate Kentucky as much as Kentucky fans hate Louisville, so anything could happen with the fans behind them.

Tyler Ulis had his career game, scoring career-best 14 points off the bench as the Wildcats defeat the Cardinals 58 to 50. Not only did he have a career game, he even got elbowed in the face, drawing blood, in the process. It was a solid win in the end of the Wildcats, and not a terrible loss for the Louisville Cardinals.

This was Kentucky’s seventh victory in eight games against the Louisville Cardinals with Calipari as their coach.
