#4 The Fabulous Five

The 1947-1948 Kentucky Wildcats were the first Wildcats to win the National Championship. They’re the foundation in which this prestigious program is built on.

The Fabulous Five was made up of:

  1. Ralph Beard
  2. Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones
  3. Alex Groza
  4. Cliff Barker
  5. Kenneth Rollins

Team USA, winning the gold in the 1948 Olympics, featured all of the Fabulous Five and was also coached by Kentucky head coach, Adolph Rupp.

To win the National Championship, the NCAA Tournament was made up of wins against Columbia (76-53), Holy Cross (60-52) and the championship against Baylor (58-42).

To this day, Kentucky fans still talk about the Fabulous Five, their names are in history books and in the rafters at Rupp Arena.
