  • It seems like the season has flown by so far. Just last week it felt like the Kentucky Wildcats were splashing away the nets and water of the Bahamas while John Calipari was practicing for his next job as a camera man. During those times, the talent was obvious, but no much chatter of 40-0 with too much hype surrounding the idea last season.

The reality is that it is March seventh and and not only Senior Day in Lexington, but it is also the last regular season game for the Kentucky Wildcats and this team has yet to taste defeat. Today is also the second time Kentucky will face their biggest conference rival Florida on the season.

Senior day is a little different in the Bluegrass state as not many players end up making it to graduation day as their ambitions are typically met after just one season of play. This season Kentucky will be saying goodbye to some of their favorite players to yell “shoot” at. John Calipari hopes that Sam Malone, Tod Lanter, and Brian Long will get to see the floor today.

"On if he thought about altering Senior Day to honor potential early NBA entrants Nah, they all told me they’re staying, so … (grins) On if he sees a scenario where the three seniors play Saturday Yeah. I hope so."

One goal that Willie Cauley-Stein set for himself coming back for his junior year was to become more tough. His developed thesis on his game from listening to the clutter around him was the he was “soft”.

It was about the Florida game earlier in the season that Cauley-Stein decided enough was enough and that he was going to just dunk on everyone. As far as the team goes, Cauley-Stein says that everyone’s goal is the same… win a National Championship. For now, just one game at a time for the Cats… but here is a reminder that Willie is not weak.

"“We all have one goal, a couple goals,” Cauley-Stein said. “One of them is ultimately winning a national championship, so that’s where everyone’s mind is at. And then, you know, make something for yourself and that’s gonna happen if we all play together and we keep continuing to win. Play for each other and then that takes care of itself.”"

If you believed coming into the season that the Florida Gators would be 15-15 coming into Rupp Arena at the end of the season then you would have had a lot of convincing to do. The talent is there but the Reptiles just can not seem to put two and two together.

Missing from action in their last seven games is Michael Frazier, one of the deadliest snipers in the conference. While I can not explain the fall out of Florida this season, It is inevitable that the Gators will arrive with nothing to lose. They would love nothing more to ruin their rivals chance at a perfect season with only the SEC tournament left as a hope to make the big dance. Michael Frazier will help their cause, but do not expect huge minutes from the junior guard.

"“I’m going into the game with him being available,” Donovan said. “But for me to go in there and say, ‘OK, he’s back right now, he’s going to play 30 minutes and he’s going to be back to where he was before he got injured,’ I think would be a mistake. It’s another body in our backcourt.”"
