Headlines: Kentucky Wildcats Defeat the Tigers

In what most fans would say is long overdue, Kentucky finally retired Tony Delk’s jersey before yesterdays matchup against Auburn. Even more crazy to think about, Delk actually thought of leaving the team his freshman season due to lack of playing time.
"Before he became a star at the University of Kentucky, Tony Delk contemplated leaving the team early in his freshman season because he was upset with his lack of playing time.A call home to Tennessee gave him no choice but to stay because his mother and brothers told him he made a commitment to UK that he needed to keep. It worked out well as Saturday night Delk became the first UK basketball player to have his jersey retired since the UK Athletics Hall of Fame was started in 2005. At that time, UK created a five-year waiting period after leaving UK to gain eligibility for Hall of Fame inclusion. Once elected to the Hall of Fame, another five years must pass before eligibility for jersey retirement. … Delk was the most outstanding player in the 1996 Final Four as well as the Midwest Regional when UK won the national championship. He was a first-team All-American that year, as well as Southeastern Conference player of the year. He was Kentucky’s leading scorer three straight seasons and still is fifth on the all-time scoring list with 1,890 points behind Dan Issel (2,138), Kenny Walker (2,080), Jack Givens (2,038) and Keith Bogans (1,923). He’s the career leader in made 3-pointers with 283 and ranks second in steals with 201 — only Wayne Turner with 238 has more."
Well, aren’t you glad he stayed? But really, congratulations Delk, you more than deserve it.
Before the basketball Cats 27th victory over the Tigers on sunday, the football program held a junior day. Which led to two pretty big offers to 2017, 2016 prospects in Anthony McFarland Jr. and Tyler Simmons. McFarland is currently rated as the second running back in the class of 2017 by 247sports (twenty-eighth overall) and Tyler Simmons – class of 16′ wide receiver – who currently has no ratings but has other offers from the likes of Auburn and Arkansas. The two received the offers on junior day.
"Despite the poor weather conditions, the University of Kentucky football program held a productive Junior Day. The day started with an information session and tour at 12:30. For many, it extended in to this evening’s basketball game. Kentucky offered scholarships to two players: 2017 running back Anthony McFarland Jr. (5-foot-9, 181) and wide receiver Tyler Simmons (5-foot-11, 184). McFarland is the No. 28 player nationally and second best running back. A product of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic, McFarland is currently rated a 94 by 247Sports. In addition to Kentucky, he has offers from Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and several others. The area has been recruited by wide receiver coach Tommy Mainord in the past. He has two early Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Florida State. Simmons also holds offers from Auburn and Tulane. Penn State and Arkansas are among the other programs to express interest. He attends Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern."

Feb. 19th – known as the NBA trade deadline – was one to remember. Crazy moves filled headlines throughout the day and amidst all the mayhem, a few former cats found new homes.
"The NBA’s trade deadline set off a zany series of events Thursday that will relocate three former University of Kentucky players — one of them who never quite got on the floor at UK — as well as a top ex-Murray State star. –Brandon Knight is headed to the Phoenix Suns, joining Eric Bledsoe, as part of a three-team deal first reported by Yahoo Sports. The Milwaukee Bucks are set to receive Michael Carter-Williams, Tyler Ennis and Miles Plumlee as part of the deal. Knight, an emerging star at the next level, was seen as somewhat of an NBA All-Star snub this season. The guard averages 17.7 points and 5.4 assists in 32.5 minutes per game. –Veteran forward Tayshaun Prince is headed back to the Detroit Pistons, ESPN reports, after a brief stint with the rebuilding Boston Celtics, per ESPN. Prince, 34, started this season with the Memphis Grizzlies before going to the Celtics in a Jan. 12 deal also involving the New Orleans Pelicans. In nine games with the Celtics, he came off the bench to average 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 22 minutes a game. –In one of the most predictable trades of the day, the Utah Jazz sent disgruntled center Enes Kanter to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of another multi-team trade, according to Yahoo Sports. Kanter, who requested a trade and will become a free agent after this season, was a regular Jazz starter averaging 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds."
