It seems that New Zealand is buzzing over Tai Wynyard’s decision to commit to the Kentucky Wildcats. Wynyard’s coach raved about the Wildcats system and gave us an idea of what Tai brings to the Wildcats.
"He has been part of the Breakers development system, playing a few minutes for the senior team in their season-opener. Wynyard yesterday made it clear that he wanted to play in the NBA and Breakers coach Dean Vickerman has no doubt he’s made the right choice in Kentucky to try to achieve that. “He had great schools to select from and to pick Kentucky right now, as best in the nation . . . they are also a little different to other colleges. They don’t muck around with what they are trying to do,” Vickerman said. “They are trying to send people to the NBA. Often they don’t talk about ‘you are going to be here for four years like all the other colleges and getting your education. “They say ‘your path from here is to go to the NBA’. It might be one year, two years, it might be three years. But that’s where they are trying to get you. “And if that (the NBA) is where Tai is trying to go, I think he has picked a fantastic school.” Vickerman believes Wynyard has the physical attributes to be a success in his looming surroundings. “I think he really enjoys physicality and you don’t see that in every kid. He really enjoys setting great screens, he really enjoys the test of banging with people. It’s a pretty unique body right now. “There are great athletes at Kentucky but I think with his size and strength he is going to be able to match it with them as well.” Vickerman says Kentucky has “unbelievable” support systems to help a young man make the mental adjustments, too. There is pride in the Breakers organisation that another of their young players has been scouted into the American system, proof of the champion club’s talent identification, coaching and general systems."
Last year, all four members of John Calipari’s 2014 recruiting class were named McDonald’s All Americans. Today, we will learn what commits and what other recruits will be named McDonald All Americans.
