Can Thursday be a Daily Double for Kentucky Wildcats basketball?
By Paul Jordan
To this date, the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team has just one commitment for the 2015 class. They could triple that number on Thursday. Or remain stuck at one. Either way, this will likely be the only chance for the Kentucky Wildcats to nab another commitment in the early signing period. So all eyes will be on ESPNU on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM when Skal Labissiere and Isaiah Briscoe will make their college decisions known.
So where will they go? It looks like it is a tossup with both recruits. Skal Labissiere is thought to be a Kentucky Wildcats or Memphis Tigers decision.
"The hometown Tigers were widely pegged as the favorite for the past few months. That’s no longer the case, says Scout.com director of recruiting Evan Daniels. “All signs are pointing toward Kentucky right now,” Daniels told the Herald-Leader on Monday. “They seem to be in the pole position. The sources I’ve talked to all say Kentucky for Skal.” Scout.com ranks Labissiere as the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2015, behind fellow UK recruit Jaylen Brown and Louisiana State commitment Ben Simmons. Labissiere was the first player from his class to earn a scholarship offer from UK and managed to retain his elite status despite missing most of his junior season of high school with a back injury."
In my opinion, Labissiere is a high risk/high reward prospect. There seems to be a great deal of baggage around him, but in the end, if John Calipari is willing to take his commitment, you just have trust Cal. He of course, has far more information than any of us.

In the same link as above, Evan Daniels also gave his thoughts on Isaiah Briscoe. This has been a pretty wild recruitment as the Kentucky Wildcats got into the game quite late and seemed to grab the upper hand with Briscoe over the summer and fall. Then St. Johns seemed to grab the momentum and now … who knows?
"“Isaiah Briscoe has done a good job of playing his cards close to the vest,” Daniels said. “I think the entire East Coast thinks he’s going to St. John’s, and I think everybody else thinks he’s going to Kentucky. I think he’s done a pretty good job of making both sides feel pretty confident. “This has been a pretty wild recruitment. A lot of twists and turns throughout the whole deal. I firmly believe it’s down to (UK and St. John’s). And as of today, I think anything can happen.” Briscoe — considered the No. 15 overall prospect in the class of 2015 by Scout.com — is widely regarded as the No. 1 point guard in the class. He also earned scholarship offers from Arizona, Louisville and Syracuse, among others, throughout his recruitment. The early signing period for high school seniors begins Wednesday and runs through Nov. 19."

We all know about the UNC scandal and there has been a lot of talk about whether the NCAA will finally man up and strip the Tar Heels of their 2005 National Title. And in that vein of thought, what would have happened with John Calipari and the NCAA had Memphis won the 2008 title? Mike DeCourcy is one of the best writers in college basketball and he says that the best way to keep your title is to win one. So if Derrick Rose had hit those free throws, John Calipari could be a two time NCAA champ today. Remember, Kansas also had some NCAA concerns after that game and kept their banner. It’s a great read.
"There are those of us who believe if Rose canned both those free throws that any concern about an SAT score invalidated for “non-cooperation” – a month after he’d played his final college game, six months after he’d been cleared for freshman eligibility by the NCAA – would have been mitigated and the words “strict liability” might never have become an NCAA justice catch phrase. We do not know what the NCAA will find when it concludes its reanimated investigation into the academic issues at North Carolina cited in the report compiled by attorney Kenneth Wainstein."
