Kentucky Wildcats Football: Wednesday’s Defense Report

Today at football media availability Bud Dupree cleared some things up; starting with his name. For the record, the star DE likes to be called Bud- not Alvin, and not Alvin “Bud” Dupree, just Bud Dupree.

"“I don’t really know too many people who call me Alvin. I know my parents get mad when they announce it on T.V. as Alvin,” He said."

Bud says he got the nickname from his “God-mom” before he was even born.

"“It came real fast…I remember when I was a freshman and all the upperclassmen were telling me it would fly by,” is what Dupree says of his senior night and college career coming to a close. He is now the upperclassman telling the younger players that it will fly by and to enjoy it."

"On the seniors’ time at Kentucky, Dupree said, “We’ve been through a lot of down times and some fun times- we just got to finish it out with a win.”"

When he mentioned wanting to go out on a win again later, he said “just to give the program another boost.” That’s the type of selflessness that Stoops and DJ Eliot speak on frequently when referring to Dupree and his leadership and impact on this team. It’s what makes him the type of player he is.

"When talking about senior night, Bud says, “I try not to think about it because I don’t want to get soft, ya know? I know it’s going to be real emotional, my parents are going to be here as well as the other seniors’ parents on the team and it’ll be an emotional game for the coaches, too. This will be our last time playing with them in Commonwealth Stadium…and all our fans, our last time seeing them, too in Commonwealth. There will be a lot of emotions flying around but we just got to ball out and focus on a win.” Hard to imagine any six-foot-four, 270 pound NFL prospect being “soft”, but when facing the school from your home state on your senior night and ending what has been nothing short of a roller-coaster college career, it could happen."

"“I’m from Georgia and my last home game of my college career will be played against Georgia, I couldn’t ask for anything better. Playing my home state and it’s just great,” Dupree said."

Great, is what Kentucky fans are hoping for when the #17 Bulldogs roll into town Saturday. Dupree says the key is executing plays and just playing hard. Brown says they have to prepare to deal with the multiple offense and defend them in a lot of different ways. Regardless, Kentucky is 1 away from bowl eligibility and what better time to get it than on senior night against a ranked team? I see none. Pack Commonwealth this weekend, BBN, I have a feeling we’re in for a good one.
