This weekend in Kentucky sports is the biggest show and prove opportunity to date. There will be bigger show and prove moments to come for sure but this weekend is pretty big. It all started Friday with Big Blue Madness, Kentucky’s annual festive celebration that commences the start of the men and women’s basketball campaigns.

Matthew Mitchell and John Calipari show off their talent-laden teams to the hyped up Rupp Arena fans and potential future UK recruits. From that point forward both teams embark on proving to themselves and America how good they will go on to be.

The SEC Network may want to look at how they show Big Blue Madness next year. Player introductions were omitted this time around due to music rights fees and what not. I’m still a fan of the network but they whiffed on their initial handling of this event. Kentucky fans let them know that this is kind of a big deal in the Commonwealth.

If the spring games of the elite SEC schools get altered in a negative way, I think the network would get similar feedback once again.

Speaking of showing and proving, Drake has to be mentioned. I’m a fan of the man and am glad he is around the UK program. You won’t hear me hating on him for that. But when you throw up an airball, you know you’re going to catch some good-humored heat for it.

Here’s to Drizzy showing and proving that the jumper is improving at next year’s Big Blue Madness.

The Kentucky football team has shown and proven that they are much improved already. At 5-1 (2-1 SEC) they have exceeded even the most optimistic UK fans predictions. That would be the case even if they lost out the rest of the way. However they are ahead of schedule and seem to still be trending upward. Tonight they get a chance to show and prove on the road against LSU with top ranked Mississippi State looming next weekend (let’s not get ahead of ourselves).

The fact that we even confidently believe that Kentucky will go down to Baton Rouge and compete wasn’t really a tangible thought at the beginning of the season. It is now. Folks in Louisiana are a bit uneasy about how this game may turn out. It’s a safe bet to say that they didn’t feel that way in early August.

Some experts are feeling Kentucky and even picking them to emerge from Death Valley victorious.

So there you have it. The great show and prove Kentucky sports weekend is underway. Let’s see how it plays out.
