Fantasy Football Strategy: Week 1

facebooktwitterreddit

Football season is once again among us my dear friends, and that can only mean two things, disappointed Browns fans and FANTASY FOOTBALL!!! (Sorry to my friends who are Browns fans). Each week I will try and help you start one player at each position to maximize your points each week. I will try and give sleepers each week though some may not actually be sleepers. Let’s go and win your league! Also, just try to have fun with it.

People To Start:

QB – Nick Foles (Eagles) vs. Jacksonville
This is not a biased pick because I’m an Eagles fan, but Nick Foles is playing against Jacksonville. Jacksonville is arguably one of the worst teams again this year and coming off a 27 TD, 2 INT year from Foles, I expect big things this week from Foles. Foles last season threw 7 touchdowns against a poor Oakland defense, he may have a field day again. Look for Foles to get 330 passing yards and 3 touchdowns

RB – Monte Ball (Denver) vs. Indianapolis
Monte Ball is the man in Denver this year and he is going to want to prove to himself, fans and coaches that he can remain the guy in Denver. That said, he is going against a mediocre run defense in the Colts. I think he is going to go off on the Colts and rush for 110 yards and 1 touchdown

WR – Randall Cobb (Green Bay) @ Seattle
Let’s give our good ole friend Randall Cobb a start this week. You may already have Cobb starting but for those of you who may have a comparable WR you were thinking about starting over Cobb, you might want to reconsider. Jordy Nelson is going to be hounded all night by Richard Sherman, and Aaron Rogers isn’t a fool. He will find Cobb all night. I see Cobb getting 10 receptions and 100 yards at least 1 touchdown.

TE – Martellus Bennett (Chicago) vs. Buffalo
Bennett, in my opinion, will have a very good, but quiet week. Going against Buffalo, Cutler may try to find his big right end in the middle of the field against those Buffalo linebackers. It’ll be a quiet week because no one will be paying attention to the numbers he is putting up because they’ll be too focused on Alshon Jefferey and Brandon Marshall. Look for Bennett to get 8 receptions for 80 yards and 1 touchdown

K – Stephen Gostkowski (New England) @ Miami
Tom Brady and the Patriots always have good games against the Dolphins and that means lots of touchdowns which in turn means PAT’s. Now throw in 2 field goals and you have a very nice fantasy week from the kicker. Look for Gostkowski to get 4 PATs, 2 field goals, one from 30 yards and the other from 40 yards.

DEF – Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tennessee
Kansas City is at home with that loud crowd, and let’s face it, the Titans offense is a mess right now. This young Chiefs team is just going to eat them alive. Look for 3 sacks, 1-2 INTs and hold Tennessee to 14 points or less.

Sleeper – Percy Harvin (Seattle) vs. Green Bay
The speed/quick Harvin is a nightmare for most defenses, and with the Packers shaky secondary, Russell Wilson will be looking for Harvin early and often. I see Harvin amassing 70 yards on 10 receptions and possibly a touchdown.
