The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team will receive another version of Nike’s Hyper Elite Dominance uniforms this season. This time however, the uniforms are made to look like a vintage/throwback Kentucky uniform. The uniforms will be worn for the Florida game on February 15, which will also be ESPN’s College GameDay Coverage.
Kentucky will not be the only school to showcase throwback uniforms. Nike is giving six other schools uniforms as well. Those six schools are Michigan State, Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina, Sryacuse and Oregon.
According to Nike, each uniform is to ‘recognize’ each school’s ‘tradition of college basketball and long-standing rivalries.’ This edition of Nike’s Hyper Elite uniforms does capture the tradition of the Kentucky basketball program well. Seeing the Kentucky arched across the chest of the jersey brings to mind great teams such as the Unforgettables among others. It is fitting too that the Cats will debut these uniforms in front of the home crowd at Rupp Arena against the Florida Gators for ESPN’s College GameDay.
The order of each school’s uniform debut is as follows:
- Michigan State vs. Georgetown – 2/1
- Ohio State vs. Michigan – 2/11
- Duke vs. Maryland – 2/15
- Kentucky vs. Florida – 2/15
- Syracuse vs. Boston College – 2/19
- North Carolina vs. Wake Forest – 2/22
- Oregon vs. Washington State 2/23
Kentucky has already worn another version of Nike’s Hyper Elite uniforms this season in all-blue and with eight stars across the back for each national championship. Those uniforms were worn during the Baylor game in Dallas. That game was a double-header which the men’s team followed the women’s team after the Lady Cats went into four overtimes to eventually win. The men’s team would not be as successful however. Perhaps though, the Florida game will make up for the early season loss to Baylor.
