Mark Stoops and his Kentucky Wildcats have a big game coming up this Saturday against the Florida Gators.  I can’t call them rivals because we have beaten then since November 15, 1986.  I had just turned five (5).  But despite all the negative history that the fans recall, not any of the current wildcats were alive then so they aren’t carrying around 26 years of defeat on to the field.  Advantage us.  Florida recently found out that they will be without their best player, DL Dominique Easley for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL.  Now I’m not happy the kid is hurt, just saying that’s an advantage for our boys in blue.  Couple that with the loss of QB Jeff Driskell and Mike Bianci or the Orlando Sentinel thinks Kentucky has a legit shot to end the streak.

"First, Florida Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel is lost for the season and now the best player on the team — defensive lineman  Dominique Easley — is out for the year, too. Easley, it was announced Wednesday, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Florida practice Tuesday night. Injures have already crippled a once-promising Gator season, and a loss to Kentucky Saturday for the first time since 1986 is not out of the question. The Gators have beaten the Wildcats 26 straight times, but that streak could easly come to an end Saturday in Lexington."

Speaking of Kentucky Wildcats football, former Cat John Conner signed a contract to play for the New York Giants.  Some of you may not remember much about Conner but he is a fullback and that position is seldom used in the NFL now so this is huge for him.  He was a Bengal to begin the season but was cut in training camp.

"EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – No player takes pleasure in going up against guys with nicknames like Hynoceros or The Terminator. But that doesn’t mean each NFL team wants one of its own. Such is the life of a fullback. The Giants are one of the franchises in the minority, though, that relies on pure fullbacks. But they lost theirs today when they placed the hard-hitting Henry Hynoski on season-ending injured reserve due to a fractured shoulder. Meanwhile, John Conner, nicknamed after the blockbuster film franchise featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was making the rounds and waiting for an opportunity to arise. He was released by the Cincinnati Bengals following training camp this year after spending two full seasons with the New York Jets. In need of help at the position, the Giants offered him a spot on the team, and he accepted. “Just watching them on film and watching their games, I know they use the fullback,” Conner said. “So it’s a great fit for me… It is a rare thing. That’s why it’s hard for fullbacks to find jobs now because it’s become a pass-happy league.” Hynoski’s injury only exacerbated the Giants’ inability to run the ball so far this season. They have just 133 yards combined through their first three games. That’s just 44.3 yards per game, good for last in the NFL. The Giants hope Conner’s physicality will be a plus for the unit. “That’s the way I like to play the game,” he said. “I don’t play it any other way.” Conner, who joked that it seems like he “can’t stay away” from New York after coming into the league with the Jets, will now play catch-up in the playbook as a midseason addition. “This is my first day,” said Conner, standing next to his suitcase at his locker. “Thinks are kind of cloggy right now, but I figure after a couple days I should be good just by studying and meeting with coaches afterwards.” In the meantime, he will help out on special teams until his number is called in the backfield. “It’s huge,” Connor said of the opportunity. “That’s my job – to come in and open up some holes and help this run game out.”"
