Good morning Big Blue Nation and welcome to the end of the summer post. As August steamrolls towards us, it’s time to take a look back over the summer and see what we really learned, if anything. Don’t worry. This is not a pop test and you were not required to take notes so you can relax. This is just a few random thought and occurrences that I observed and somehow managed to stick in my mind, so enjoy.

First off, the above picture has to be my favorite picture of the summer. We see Tom Crean schlubbing in his Indiana shirt at the Nike Global Challenge.  I assume he is wearing it so that people don’t confuse him for Rainn Wilson or Tom Arnold.  I know that Calipari sports UK gear in public as well but when Tom Crean does it, it has the feel of a guy that wears the t-shirt of the band he is seeing  to a concert.  Or a Wolverine t-shirt to a screening of “Wolverine”.  If you do so, expect to be punched in the stomach or have a slurpee thrown at you.  And Crean is that guy.

And in walks John Calipari fresh from the thrift shop in your grandpa’s hand-me-down pastel shirt and you can almost imagine  Macklemore providing the soundtrack and Calipari doing the ‘Walk up to the gym like ‘what up, I got a …..’ as he passes by Crean.  If you really don’t know the “Thrift Shop” lyrics, you can google them.  This is still a family site, but for some weird reason, this picture inspires that thought.  It’s pretty bad ass. And yea, Calipari looks pretty incredible in your grandad’s clothes.

Since this is a summer recap of sorts, I feel that I need to give a few awards.  This summers most annoying Twitter account goes to ….

Hands down. This is the most annoying Twitter account of ALL TIME. So it’s fair to say that the best parody Twitter account of the summer has to go to :

Ashely Lowery gets the award for the best comeback of the summer. The fact that he is back on the football field is nothing short of amazing after his auto accident in May. I’m not going to be judgmental on the DUI situation as he will have to face the fallback for his actions. Hopefully he can spin that into a positive, do some public service, and be walking proof of what NOT to do in the future. He has a good chance being an athlete to reach some kids. But the fact that we almost lost one of our own and he is fully recovered is nothing short of amazing.

Enough awards.  Let’s get on to my other observations.
