Kentucky Wildcats Football: Hump Day Recruiting Update

facebooktwitterreddit

If you follow football recruiting closely, you can’t help but be excited right now. Even with Darius West canceling his announcement for tomorrow. Everyone felt that West was a lock for Kentucky and that the snowball that is the 2014 class would keep rolling and getting bigger. Well, this is a minor setback. West is still very high on Kentucky. He wanted to visit other schools before deciding, which is sensible. It is much better to have a commit who is all in with your school than someone who flips late in the process. But take heart. West is very close  with the current members of UK’s class and with some future members. And nearly all of the professional writers who cover UK recruiting are hearing that West isn’t likely to change his mind. You could see a situation similar to TE Daryl Long whose announcement got moved around before finally going with the original date and picking the Cats.

Other recruiting bits:

It’s VERY possible thatKentuckypicks up a commitment today at some point. There has been a lot of smoke rolling around this one and you should be very happy if it breaks. It’s important not to worry about stars, just check out who has offered the kid, you’ll be impressed.

UPDATE 3:00 PM: 3-star safety Jared Tucker ended up committing to the Cats, though he may play cornerback at the college level.

–         The weekend of June 8th is shaping up to be a huge recruiting event. A lot of talented players will be on campus and most of them have at least medium interest in Kentucky. The current commits plan on being there to recruit their future teammates as well as build their own relationships.

–         Just how awesome and special is this class turning out to be? The commits are all in with building Kentucky and it’s great to see the kind of brotherhood that they are developing.

–         4* linebacker Jacob Pugh was supposedly no longer considering Kentucky but is now reportedly attending the June 8 recruiting weekend.

–         Louisville QB Robert Jones will camp at UK, he has been told he could earn a scholarship offer as an athlete. The dual-threat quarterback has some athleticism and could develop as a gadget-player if not a passer.

–         JUCO OL Adam Duckett has named UK his leader via Twitter.Kentucky’s written letter campaign has impressed another one.

–         Keep hearing that Matt Elam could commit at any time.Alabamarecently took another DT and are in with several 5* guys, which can’t hurtKentucky’s chances. The feeling aroundElamright now is very similar to the one locals had about Barker. It’s not that anyone could blame him for leaving but you just get the feeling that he will be a Wildcat at the end of the day.

–        Kentucky is hot on the trail of 4* all-purpose back Stanley Williams but they could have a darkhorse APB in their own back yard. Henry Clay’s Elijah Bell’s only offer so far is from Eastern Michigan, but he reportedly put on a show at the Insight Showcase in Cincinnati.

–         Speaking of Williams, the race for his commitment seems to be down to Kentucky and Clemson at this point. And while it’s never a good idea to rule out the Tigers when it comes to recruiting, they just landed 4* APB Adam Choice.
