Kentucky Football Spring Game Information

facebooktwitterreddit

In just two days we will get a look at Mark Stoop’s first team as the head football coach of the University of Kentucky. I myself am very excited! I am a crazy football fan and have been waiting (as you all have) for UK to take football seriously and bring in a coaching staff that could take UK to the next level. Even though Kentucky has yet to play a game, this staff has that “feel” to them that makes you want to believe, that gets you excited, that gets other fans enthusiastic and optimistic. Some of it is due to the relentless recruiting of the coaching staff. Some of it is the fact that the UK administration is pouring in over 100 million dollars in upgrades. Don’t believe me? Just look at how many tickets have been scooped up so far for the Spring Game; as of today, 42,000+. And counting (tickets will be available at Commonwealth Stadium as well). Speaking of the Spring Game, lets take a look at the days activities and goings on.

11:30 a.m. – UK Softball Complex grand opening
1 p.m. – Softball vs. No. 3 Florida (UK Softball Complex)
2 p.m. – Baseball vs. Tennessee (Cliff Hagan Stadium)
4 p.m. – Wildcat Refuge opens (Gate 9 of Commonwealth Stadium)
5 p.m. – Men’s soccer spring game vs. Lipscomb (UK Soccer Complex)
5 p.m. – Alumni Association tailgate (Commonwealth Stadium Red Lot, near Gate 4)
5:15 p.m. – Cat Walk (Gate 1 of Commonwealth Stadium)
7 p.m. – Blue/White Spring Game (Commonwealth Stadium)

The UK softball team will have their grand opening of the UK Softball Complex at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be available and Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and head coach Rachel Lawson will speak at the ceremony. The game will start at 1:00 pm and will  be free of charge this weekend.

The baseball game starts at 2:00 pm and may still  be going on when pre-spring game festivities begin, but there should be plenty of time to tailgate and maybe even make it to the Cat Walk if you stick around for the end of the game at Cliff Hagan Stadium. Gates open at Commonwealth Stadium at 6 p.m.

All parking for the spring game is free and it is on a first come, first served basis(except for a portion of the Green Lot that will be reserved) and opens up at 8:00 am Saturday morning.

Also, a shuttle will be available to transport people from Commonwealth to Keeneland and back to the stadium(1 dollar each way). You can board the shuttle at the bus stop located on the far east side of the north Red Lot. The shuttle’s start running at 11:30 am.

The Wildcat Refuge will open at 4:00 pm (this is located between the Red and Blue lots). This is a great activity for the Kiddies as they have an assortment of giant blow-up obstacles.

If you get there too late to tailgate or don’t have people/items to tailgate with, here is a great option:

The UK Alumni Association will host a tailgate prior to the Spring Football Game on Saturday, from 5 to 7 p.m. It will take place at the Commonwealth Stadium Red Lot near Gate 4.

Tailgate attendees will enjoy music, games and giveaways. Cost to attend is $8 per person and $5 per person for UK Alumni Association members. To reserve tickets and register for the tailgate, visit www.ukalumni.net/weekend. Keep in mind that separate tickets are required for entrance into Commonwealth Stadium for the game.

T.V and Radio:  The IMG Sports Network will cover The University of Kentucky football Spring Game this weekend on both television and radio.  The radio show will air on the IMG Sports Radio Network affiliates, including WLAP 630 in Lexington and WHAS 840 in Louisville. For T.V., the Game will be telecast on a delayed basis on the IMG Sports Television Network, including the CWKYT in Lexington, on Sunday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

Fox Sports South will also televise the Blue/White Game in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and parts of North Carolina at these times:
•    Sunday, April 14 at 9 p.m.
•    Wednesday, April 17 at 11 p.m.
•    Thursday, April 18 at 2 p.m.

Weather: As of now, the temperature will be at 57 degrees and sunny, with no chance of rain.

Note: Concession stands will be open in Commonwealth Stadium and most now accept ATM and credit cards.

So come on out, bring the family and enjoy a fun filled day on the UK Campus. Definitely try to make the Cat Walk at 5:15 pm so we can all show our support to the players, coaching staff and the recruits who will be there. I’ll be there (with family) along with a lot of the other staff writers here at Wildcat Blue Nation.
