There is real fear and loathing for Kentucky Wildcats Basketball’s 2013-2014 “Death Star”

We have a bonus item for your morning five this morning as we have to recognize the job Matthew Mitchell is doing with UK Hoops. After a sloppy first half, the second seed Wildcats got it in gear yesterday afternoon and put Navy away 61-41 in their NCAA Tournament opener.

"DeNesha Stallworth scored 18 points and Jennifer O’Neill added nine of her 12 points in the second half to lead the second-seeded Wildcats to a 61-41 win over the 15th-seeded Midshipmen on Sunday in the opening round of the NCAA women’s tournament. “We were a little rusty not playing in a couple weeks,” Stallworth said. “We played hard and stayed focus and not let the start bring us down.” Kentucky will next play No. 7 Dayton on Tuesday in the second round of the Bridgeport regional. The Flyers beat 10th-seeded St. John’s 96-90 in double overtime."

Finally it appears that ESPN is starting to take some notice on the job that Mark Stoops is doing at UK. And while there is still a ton of work to do, Kentucky’s defensive line is one of their strengths right now:

"But one area of the Wildcats’ team that he doesn’t have to worry too much over is the defensive line. What was once a group of underachievers entered the spring as Kentucky’s strength, with a hunk of experience returning. Junior Alvin Dupree played both linebacker and defensive end last year, but the coaches want him to focus more on end this spring. The Wildcats will miss ends Collins Ukwu and Taylor Wyndham, but rising junior Alvin Dupree, who has really impressed Stoops and the staff so far, is working out at end more this spring, and junior college transfer Za’Darius Smith is expected to make an immediate impact at the other end spot. Add that rising senior tackles Donte Rumph, Tristian Johnson and Mister Cobble are back, and the Wildcats will have a pretty talented defensive front to work with this fall. And in this league, you can never have too many bodies along that defensive line. “You have to be good up front in this league, and I feel like we have a foundation there with those guys,” Stoops said."

Just a warning, Mark Stoops and apparently Big Brother are watching. Coach Stoops sent out some tweets last night teasing his GPS system and says that every NFL team is calling about details on the system. Stoops also promised more details this week, so stay tuned.

And I know we have gone way over the alloted “5 stories” today, but I am going to leave you video of DL Coach Brumbaugh in the continuing “Mic’d Up” series. Have a great Monday.
