WBN SEC Football Power Rankings: 11/25/2012 (and Final) Edition
By Wayne
8. Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4) Prior Rank #7- So, in the end, we are who we thought they were, pretenders in the West. Chad Bumphis did all he could (6-146, 2TD) to lead them to a W but what he couldn’t do is play Defense. That is where they struggled, and it wasn’t pretty. Apparently they forgot that Ole Miss was playing for a bowl berth.
9. Ole Miss Rebels (6-6, 3-5) Prior Rank #9- It’s tough not to put this team ahead of MSU but I don’t think it’s justified. Having said that, Ole Miss played like a team wanting to go bowling. Congrats to Hugh Freeze, Bo Wallace (5 TD’s), and Donte Moncrief (7-173, 3 TD) on winning the Egg Bowl and securing an actual bowl berth in Season 1. There are much greener pastures ahead for the Rebels.
10. Missouri Tigers (5-7, 2-6) Prior Rank #10- As it turns out, we play “Grown Man” football in the SEC and now the Tigers know just how grown our men are. And to add insult to injury, they lost to their former Big 12 brethren, Texas A&M. Pinkel is going to have to ditch the spread and go with a more traditional game plan if he wants to compete in the East. I mean, they printed shirts for beating a winless SEC team. 11. Tennessee Volunteers (5-7, 1-7) Prior Rank #14- On this day, Tyler Bray and Corderrello Patterson could not be stopped. Bray threw 4 TD’s to 0 Int while Patterson accounted for 128 total yards (not counting Special Teams) and a TD. It was a nice way to finish the season and pick up your first SEC victory to boot.
12. Arkansas Razorbacks (4-8, 2-6) Prior Rank #12- Thank. The. Lord. Finally that clustercuss of a season is over in Fayetteville. I have never seen a Preseason Top 10 team tank like the Razorbacks did this season. John L. Smith was all smiles but his team struggled mightily. The only bright spots today were Tyler Wilson set the school record for passing yards and Cobi Hamilton set the school record for receptions with 175. Arkansas announced they have fired John L. Smith and hope to have a new coach within 10 days.
13. Kentucky Wildcats (2-10, 0-8) Prior Rank #13- And with that Loss, the Joker Phillips era comes to a close. Expectations coming in to this season were fairly high, and with Max Smith at the helm, it most assuredly would have turned out better than 0-8 in the SEC. No one is sure what coach we turn to from here, current athletic administration included, but it is the most important hire of Mitch Barnhart’s tenure.
14. Auburn Tigers (3-9, 0-8) Prior Rank #11- Auburn made a game out of this one…#SaidNoOneEver. The amount of coach speak that is allowed is too much sometimes. Having Jonathan Wallace at QB made them no more Offensive and certainly has no bearing on their D. Speculation abounds that Gene Chizik will be looking for other employment after the season, but nothing official. Guz Malzhan must have seen the writing on the wall. And yes, I know, everyone expected this slot to be occupied by UK but with what Bama did to these guys was filthy.
