2012 John Lucas Midwest Invitational Camp Recap

facebooktwitterreddit

Over 120 of the top 9th-11th graders in the region and country gathered this weekend in Louisville, KY for the 2012 John Lucas Midwest Invitational Camp.

Players went through half court and full court drills, attended lectures from the likes of ESPN’s Paul Biancardi and former South Carolina and Western Kentucky coach Darrin Horn, and of course scrimmaged each other, all under the watchful eye of former collegiate and NBA coach John Lucas.

In attendance with the players were the likes of Scout.com’s Evan Daniels, Hot100Hoops.com’s Van Coleman and local guys like Cat’s Illustrated’s Corey Albertson, and PEEG’s Mike Pegram.

Here’s a rundown of some local targets and guys to keep your eye on in the future.

PG/SG14
JaQuan Lyle
6-4/180Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee, Xavier
ThoughtsLyle hit up Big Blue Madness Friday night and ventured into Louisville for the rest of his weekend. As the highest rated player in the 2014 class in attendance, Lyle is a combo guard with great size. A prototypical John Calipari player that can handle the ball and play outside and he certainly made his case for best in camp.
SF23
Jalen Lindsey
6-6/180Alabama, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
ThoughtsSize and speed were noticeable. He was quick and athletic. The four star 2014 player consistently knocked down mid range jumpers. Being recruited by many ACC and SEC schools, Kentucky fans could easily see him in a UT or Vandy lineup in the coming years.
PG25
Quentin Snider
6-0/150Committed to Louisville
ThoughtsThe Cardinal commit was speedy and arguably the best point guard in attendance. Having the camp in his hometown, he came to play and showed a good outside game with the ability to drive to the basket.
C54
Khadeem Lattin
6-9/190Baylor, Georgetown, Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M
CUnrankedBrad Fisher6-11/270
ThoughtsPerhaps my favorite player in the camp. The big fella reigns from Culver Military Academy and was a power down low. His size and strength makes you take notice as soon as you set eyes on him. If he manages to find any game at all when he has to put the ball on the court, he will be a force for anyone to guard. At this point though, he is just a rebound and put back machine. (and here’s more of the “gentle giant” from The Mirror).
SGUnrankedAndrew Flemming6’4/180
ThoughtsIt seemed at times that Flemming had a ‘know it all’ attitude. Not listening to the coaches during drills and coming off as arrogant. Things that can easily be overlooked when you are focused into his smooth stroke from behind the arc and high energy. Still though, he ranked high on my least likeable person on the court radar. Seeing suiters of Tennessee and Florida, it wouldn’t surprise me to find him high on a few other Kentucky fan rankings of most disliked players in a couple of seasons.
CUnrankedIsaac Haas7’0/280Tennessee
ThoughtsThe guy is a muscular 280lb frame. He can post up, dunk, rebound. With the size to go along with the 7’0 frame, he will see action on the court somewhere. If he can manage to turn his rock hard hands into a softer earthly formation, he can likely make a considerable contribution to some D1 school.
SFUnrankedJeff Garrett6’7/220
ThoughtsA high jumper drawing interest from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and George Mason, his athleticism was very noticeable. If Garrett improves his shooting, his ability to drive or post up will be a perfect fit as a role player in the SEC.
