The Kentucky Wildcats are the worst football team in the State According to CBS
The University of Kentucky is ranked lower than Louisville and Western Kentucky according to CBSsports.com. The Wildcats are ranked #92, while the Louisville Cardinals come in at #29 and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are ranked at #83. That’s right, littlest brother is 9 places ahead of Kentucky.
Other teams ahead of Kentucky are Louisiana Monroe (75), North Texas (81), Eastern Michigan (89), and Marshall (91). To say this is laughable is an understatement. CBS is not only banking on Kentucky to be bad, they are banking on the Wildcats to be awful, putrid and terrible. Like a two win season terrible.
Luckily not all the ranking systems feel the same way about the Wildcats as does CBS. The BCS poll has the Wildcats ranked #68, Louisville #38 and WKU #76. No doubt Kentucky is getting a bit of a boost in the BCS rankings due to their strength of schedule and the conference they play in. Louisville is picked to actually win their conference but only show up at #38, the highest ranked Big East team. Rutgers (?) comes in right behind the Cards as the next highest at #39. This shows how much weight the Big East actually holds according to the BCS.
Kentucky football plays both Louisville and Western Kentucky early in the season. The ‘Cats will visit the Cards at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium on September 2nd for the first game of the season and WKU will come to Lexington for game number three on September 15th. We can discuss state rankings after those two contests.
Kent State is ranked #104 and Kentucky will play them the second game in case you were wondering.
Monster Mash pointed out last night that spreads and expert predictions should be looked at with a scrutinizing eye. The spread has been covered once in the past five seasons in the Kentucky vs. Louisville game. The boys in Vegas have a less than desirable record when picking the Governors Cup.
Don’t let the CBS rotten ranking get you down. We will know more about this team in two weeks.
But, if CBS is right and Kentucky loses to both Louisville and WKU, and head into Florida 1-2, then this is going to be a long season that which Joker may not recover.
I leave you with this question: after the Calipari hating polls and the awful preseason football ranking, is it safe to assume that CBS hates the University of Kentucky?
