Dermontti Dawson was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame over the weekend as well.  Dawson is arguably one of the best centers in the history of the NFL and it was great to see him finally get his Hall of Fame bust and get honored.  During his acceptance speech, Dawson shared some love for his days in Lexington:

"Included in that group was Dr. Steve Parker, the man who presented Dawson for enshrinement. Parker, now Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services at UK, discovered Dawson in a high school hallway. Then the head coach of Bryan Station High School in Lexington, Parker kick-started Dawson’s football career. “If it were not for Coach Parker coming up to me in the hallways of Bryan Station Senior High and asking me, ‘Son, where have you been all my life?’ I never would have played football and definitely would not be here today,” Dawson said. He went on to thank high school teammates Marc Logan and Cornell Burbage, two high school teammates, both of whom would go on to play alongside Dawson at UK and in the NFL. Dawson chose to come to Kentucky to continue his football career because he would also have the chance to compete in track and field there, but just as importantly because of the education he knew he would receive. He would go on to earn a degree from the College of Education at UK “I want to thank the University of Kentucky and its administration for allowing me the honor of attending a great educational institution,” Dawson said."

Avery Williamson will be a full time starter this year for the Wildcats and will be counted on to be a team leader for UK.  Larry Vaught caught up with Williamson at UK Media Days and had the following quotes:

"On why the defense will be improved … “The main thing is because we know what we are doing out there this year. Last year, it was our first time in the defense, we weren’t clear on everything. This year we really spent a lot more time in the film room, studying and getting everybody clear with what they have to do. It’s a better feeling going into camp.” On who he thinks will step up on the defensive side of the ball … “We lost all three of our linebackers, Winston (Guy), Danny (Trevathan) and [Ronnie Sneed] and as a linebacker crew we have to step up, all of us have to step up. We have to be leaders out there, be vocal and we have to make plays. All those people made plays and we have to replace them.” On the linebackers being a strength of the team … “They were kind of doubting us in the spring and I really took that to heart, we were in there working hard this summer, and we got in the film room. As the linebackers we have to be the core of the “D”, that’s our goal going into camp. We have to be tough, we have to be mentally ready and physically ready.”"
