Analyzing The Wildcats Drafted

Kentucky and Coach John Calipari made history last night when they had the most players from one team from the same year get drafted in the same draft, and the number was 6.  Anthony Davis and Darius Miller were selected by New Orleans. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was selected number 2 overall by the Charlotte Bobcats.  Terrence Jones went to the Houston Rockets.  Marquis Teague was claimed by the Chicago Bulls. Last, but not least, Doron Lamb was drafted by Milwaukee.  I’m here to breakdown the picks made by our former Cats new teams.

 New Orleans

#1 Anthony Davis – PF

#46 Darius Miller – SF

Anthony Davis:

The New Orleans Hornets didn’t surprise anyone here when they took Davis. Honestly this is a way better place for Davis to go to than Charlotte in regards to winning early.  He gets to play ball with a familiar face in Darius Miller. New Orleans traded some players to Washington to open up money and playing time for Davis.

Other Players Drafted: Austin Rivers (Duke), Darius Miller (Kentucky)

Teams Record: 21-45

Next Years Projected Record: 35-47

Projected Starter?: Yes

Draft Grade: A-

Darius Miller:

Im actually surprised that Miller fell that far down the draft; I thought for sure he would get drafted around the 33-36 range. He did not how ever, and he fell to the Hornets. He gets to play with Anthony Davis, so he is blessed with that, but it might be Anthony Davis that is more blessed that Miller was drafted by the same team.  There is no doubt that Darius Miller will make this team and be in the league for a while.

Other Players Drafted: Anthony Davis (Kentucky), Austin Rivers (Duke)

Teams Record: 21-45

Next Years Projected Record: 35-47

Projected Starter?:  No

Draft Grade: A-

 Charlotte Bobcats

#2 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist – SF

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist:

Some people were surprised that Kidd-Gilchrist was taken at number 2, but no one thought it was out of the question what so ever. Michael Jordan seemed to like Michael over his Tar Heels star, Harrison Barnes.  With the players that Charlotte drafted, they could be a team that would be interesting to watch next year. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will help Charlotte win significantly, because if there is one thing Michael is good at, it’s winning.  Royce White’s anxiety must be flaring since Kidd-Gilchrist got drafted high, so suck it Royce!

Other Players Drafted: Jeff Taylor (Vanderbilt)

Teams Record: 7-59

Next Years Projected Record: 27-55

Projected Starter?: Yes

Draft Grade: B

 Houston Rockets

#18 Terrence Jones – PF

Terrence Jones:

Terrence Jones was projected to go anywhere from 8-20, a wide range, yes I know.  He gets to play with fromer Kentucky player and fan favorite Patrick Patterson, and maybe Patterson can take Jones under his wing. Royce White was also drafted by Houston, so maybe Jones can show White a thing or two about basketball and being a man.

Other Players Drafted: Jeremy Lamb (UConn), Royce White (Iowa State)

 Teams Record: 34-32

Next Years Projected Record: 45-37

Projected Starter?: No

Draft Grade: B+

 Chicago Bulls

 #29 Marquis Teague – PG

Marquis Teague:

I was really hoping to see Teague get drafted bye the Indiana Pacers, so i can go see him play. Miles Plumlee was rated as the 44th best player by ESPN, but the Indiana Pacers were like “Nah.”  Teague will surprisingly not be starting over Derrick Rose, but he and CJ Watson will be awesome back ups. Like Rose, Marquis Teague is lighting quick with the ball. I’m happy for Teague. It’s a geat place for him to go.

Other Players Drafted: None

Teams Record: 50-16

Next Years Projected Record: 54-28

Projected Starter?: No

Draft Grade: B

 Milwaukee Bucks

#42 Doron Lamb – SG/PG

Doron Lamb:

I thought that Lamb would go to Cleveland in the second round, but Cleveland decided Tyler Zeller was good enough to trade for him.  I am not too enthused with Lamb going to the Bucks. I hope he gets traded, I mean seriously, I hope he does.  Milwaukee never gets better and never gets worse, so Lamb is stuck in a bad spot here.

Other Players Drafted: John Henson (UNC)

Teams Record: 31-35

Next Years Projected Record: 32-50

Projected Starter?: No

Draft Grade: C+
