Chapter VII: The Curveball

While Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois all border Kentucky directly, the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey are even further north.  While the trek down to Lexington is further, the payoff in improved weather conditions is also better.  In addition to that, Rutgers is the only school in the state of New Jersey in a BCS conference and Penn State is the only one in Pennsylvania.  The ‘lure’ of the Big East should be easy to overcome in New Jersey, and Penn State’s current turmoil is well documented as well.  These two states are also overflowing with talent.  Pennsylvania has put out 37 four or five-star athletes since 2010 and New Jersey isn’t far behind with 27 players rated at four-stars or more.  While Kentucky has started targeting New Jersey athletes this year, Pennsylvania has remained largely ignored by the staff.
