Teague Silences Critics
All season long the talking heads stated that the downfall of Kentucky could be the point guard position. Marquis Teague was unfairly criticized by analysts and fans alike as being the Wildcats’ Achilles Heel. During a third round match up against a tough Iowa State team, Teague silenced those critics. He had a game high 24 points and shot 10-14 from the field. He also dished out seven assists and turned the ball over only twice. Teague quieted the notion of him being the weak spot.
Kentucky vs. Indiana: The Revenge Game
With the image of Christian Watford burying a last second desperate three pointer at Assembly Hall seemingly running on a loop on ESPN, the Wildcats had revenge in mind in this Sweet Sixteen match up. Anthony Davis and Cody Zeller were both sidelined with foul trouble in the first half, prompting Christian Watford and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to pick up the superstar slack. Terrence Jones wiped away the memory of him listlessly sitting on the bench as the Hoosiers defeated Kentucky in December. Jones went for 14 points and five rebounds in the 102-90 game. This NBA style game no doubt the most exciting game offensive of the tournament.
Kentucky vs. Louisville: Final Four Armageddon
What was billed as the biggest sporting event in the history of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Wildcats vs. the Cardinals did not disappoint. The talent gap was obvious, but Louisville fought with all of their might to make the Wildcats sweat. Peyton Siva tied the game with a three pointer in the second half, but Louisville would never lead. Anthony Davis seemingly laughed at the Cardinal fans that debated that Gorgui Dieng was his equal or even better. Davis had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Dieng finished with 7 and 12. Kentucky also got a big 13 point game from senior Darius Miller as the ‘Cats defeated their rival for the fourth straight time 69-61 and went on to the national title game.
And we all know what happened from there. Kentucky beat Kansas for the title, Anthony Davis won every individual award imaginable and the Wildcats went on to visit President Obama at the White House.
