Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: The Best of the 2011-2012 Season

Michael Kidd-Glichrist Destroys Louisville

MKG put up 24 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a 69-62 win over Louisville. The game was much more out of reach than the score indicated and MKG was as unstoppable on defense as we was on offense. He held Louisville’s leading scorer Kyle Kuric to 1-4 shooting and just two points. The ‘Cards again fell victim to a monstrous double-double as they had in previous games. DeMarcus Cousins was a beast in 2009, Jorts lit them up in the Yum! Center in 2010, and MKG out worked all of them in 2011. Who will be the Card killer in 2012?

Kentucky Responds to LSU’s Physical Play

Kentucky was starting to pull away from the Tigers when Anthony Davis was fouled hard and almost hurt during the above play. After Davis got up, dusted himself off and once again took the floor, there was no looking back. John Calipari and the media had questioned the toughness of the Wildcats and the team responded with a 74-50 blow out over a very physical LSU team. It was during this game that Kentucky found it’s killer instinct.

Kentucky Goes Platinum

The Wildcats were one of only a handful of teams that wore the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum Uniforms. They were worn during an ESPN Super Tuesday home game against the hated Tennessee Volunteers. The uniforms may not have had magical powers, but the Wildcats sure played like they did. They blitzed the Vols 69-44 in one of their best performances of the season.

The Bulldog Rally

While Kentucky had been defeated only once, they were not beaten soundly. That looked like it was going to happen at Mississippi State on February 21st as Kentucky trailed 41-28 at the half. The Bulldogs punched Kentucky in the mouth and completely dominated 80% of the game until Kentucky, again led by another big double-double from Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, put the clamps on defense and shut the Bulldogs down offensively. The Wildcats ended up winning 73-64 and went on to go undefeated in SEC regular season play.
