Kentucky Wildcats Football: Winston Guy/Danny Trevathan NFL Draft Profiles
By Jason Marcum
NFL Mocks breaks down Guy’s game into pros and cons:
"Pros: Very Durable Explosive Tackler Consistently wraps up Improved Coverage every season 3 Year Starter Played elite competition Great Size Great Speed Attacks line of scrimmage to get TFL Good special teams ability (coverages, and some return ability) Good instincts Cons: Does not have great recovery speed Can over pursue on misdirection plays Does not make a ton of interceptions Plays the ball better in front of him (especially the run game) Player Comparison: Bob Sanders"
Round Projection: 4th-6th round
Guy will likely need a year on the bench learning the SS position at the NFL level, as he only played the position as a starter for two years in college before switching to a SS/OLB role his senior year. The switch was made to take advantage of his strengths in defending the run game, which led to him totaling 120 tackles his senior year. He gets lost in coverage too often to be a 3-down safety, so if he’s able to contribute this year, it will be on special teams and as a situational blitzing safety. He’ll be a quality pickup for whatever team picks him on day 3 of the NFL Draft.
Good luck to all of the former Cats as they pursue NFL careers. We’re rooting for them wherever they end up in life.
