WBN Weekend Wrap Up: Anthony Davis showed John Calipari he won’t be Bullied
Cats blow out wanna be Bullies
To say that John Calipari was pleased at the 74-50 win over LSU would be an understatement. “That’s about as good as we can play”, the Wildcat coach stated. Coach Cal, along with all of Big Blue Nation, was excited to see the Wildcats play tougher than the opposing team on the road for the first time this season.
Anthony Davis earned his 16 points and 10 boards as the Tigers tried to punish him with physical and dirty play throughout the game. LSU player Malcolm White had enough of Davis and the Cats dunking on him, so in the second half he grabbed Davis from behind and slung him to the floor in an ugly incident. White was given a flagrant two and was ejected from the game. Davis shook off the foul, hit 1 out of 2 free throws and played the rest of the game.
The foul seemed to piss off the rest of the team and Kentucky went on to blitz the Tigers. Terrence Jones was a man possessed and had a terrific game with 27 points and nine rebounds. I said last week that Jones would have one of these games as a lot of people were calling Jones soft and saying that he had no heart (one UK blog in particular). Now Terrence is “back”. He never went away in my opinion as he was rebounding, blocking and defending in every game he played in, he just wasn’t scoring.
Darius Miller was also fantastic in the game. He is on fire from the three point line and from anywhere around the rim.
And just a quick word on LSU’s play and coach Trent Johnson’s reaction to it: it was dirty and uncalled for. After White fouled Davis, Johnson stood and did nothing while John Calipari stepped onto the court in order to break up potential fights and look out for the safety of his players. There is a big difference between playing tough and playing to hurt someone. The players for LSU were clearly looking to hurt a Kentucky player, namely Anthony Davis.
If the Cats continue to play with toughness and the killer instinct they have shown in the past four games, there is no team in the country that can beat them. No team at all.
Kansas and Missouri latest Top 10 teams to falter
Add the Jayhawks and the Tigers to the ranks of the Tar Heels, the Buckeyes, the Orange, the Bears and the Blue Devils to top 10 ranked teams that have lost recently. Other than Kentucky, no teams have seemed to be as dominant at home and on the road both.
Ohio State took two on the chin on the road this season while UNC lost all three of theirs on the road, and the other teams have had a mixture of home and away losses. Kentucky has only the fluke at Indiana as a loss and has looked as if they are the best team in college basketball since December.
Syracuse almost took a loss at home but were bailed out by a blown goal tending call that did not go the way that Bob Huggins and West Virginia wanted it to. Take a look and you be the judge:
Is there any argument that the Big (L)East was the worst refs in college basketball?
IU and Louisville back to winning ways
Break up the Cardinals and the Hoosiers. No really, somebody do it and end our misery. Both teams scored wins this weekend over bad/mediocre teams. Indiana scored over 100 points at home against Iowa, but I bet that would be the opposite case if the game would have been played on the road. Louisville beat Seton Hall and have won three (!) in a row. Who have they beaten? Pittsburgh (13-9, 2-7), Villanova (10-12, 3-7) and Seton Hall (15-6, 4-5). World beaters they ain’t. Fun Fact: Louisville has not defeated a team that is currently ranked in the AP to 25. Both IU and Louisville are fringe top 25 teams and should have no better than a 5 seed come tournament time.
Pro Bowl is a Snore/Score Fest
The AFC beat the NFC 1,010-999, or something like that. No defense, no will, no heart, nothing at stake. Why watch this game if you are a fan? All it showcases is football players on vacation in Hawaii. Paul Jordan’s favorite player Brandon Marshall was the MVP.
