Where are they now?: Kentucky Basketball Edition
By Alan Smith
I’m not going to sit here and give you a long detailed list of some former Kentucky basketball players who have their own business or work as a community activist, nor am I going to relay some stats like I do every Tuesday morning. Since you already know for the most part what John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins do five nights a week thanks to ESPN, I’m not going to cover that in this short little update. Instead, I’m going to update you on the status of those players who haven’t been mentioned as often or those who are not putting down any stats as of late.
Eric Bledsoe (PG/LA Clippers): He has been off the map for quite sometime, but the former UK point guard practiced on Tuesday. He had knee surgery on a torn lateral miniscus, which has kept him out of action so far this season and could possibly keep him out until at least late February, according to coach Vinney Del Negro. The Clippers are considering the option of sending Bledsoe to the NBA D-League for some playing time and to help him practice. With the Clippers, he is facing limited playing time behind Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups, and Mo Williams. “We’re talking about seeing if he can go down and play a couple games maybe in the D-League and giving him some experience, in terms of just getting his mind right, getting some flow into the game,” Del Negro said. “We don’t have any practices and there’s no chance for him to get out there and play.”
Ramel Bradley (PG/Hapoel Migdal, Israel): “Smooth”, as he was always known around Kentucky, has taken his game overseas and has been playing in Israel for a few years. He had been playing with Maccabi Ashdod until he was just recently signed to Hapoel Migdal. He is listed 10th in scoring in the Premier League with 17 points per game. I’m sure he is still throwing up the “Roc” after every made three-point basket, too.
Joe Crawford (SG/Maccabi Rishon LeZion, Israel): Crawford has joined his former teammate and is also out playing in Israel, with Maccabi Rishon. He had a few stints in China, as well as with the New York Knicks and the Sacramento Kings. He is currently averaging 20 points per game.
Daniel Orton (C/Orlando Magic): As it was mentioned this morning, the former center is not being resigned with the Magic, making him an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Having not played at all with the Magic in two season, as the former 29th draft pick with an offseason surgery and injury on his resume, does not help his case much. We certainly wish him the best in his NBa career though.
