Darius Miller becomes 58th member of 1000 point club at Kentucky
By Paul Jordan
It’s one thing for Darius Miller to become the exclusive 58th member of the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball’s 1000 point club. It’s another to get love from superfan Ashley Judd just a few hours later. Miller entered the 1000 point club with a three pointer in the second half which gave sluggish Kentucky their first double digit lead of the night at 45-35. Kentucky never looked back and went on to a 73-51.
Miller became just the 20th Kentuckian to join the exclusive club and is on pace to finish with around 1275 points, which would put him at 32nd all time. Miller had this to say about his achievement:
"“Yeah, it means a lot to me. Like I said, I’m blessed to be a part of something like this. I’m thankful and happy to be a part of something like this, especially in the program we’re in. It feels good.”"
Let’s put the UALR game to bed with video of John Calipari’s post game press conference:
It’s official. Kentucky announced yesterday that former UK player and coach Mike Cassity will be UK football’s defensive backs coach. Cassity has spent the last couple of years at Marshall but Cassity has an impressive resume and gets results:
"Cassity began his coaching career at UK as a student coach in 1975 while completing his degree. He was an assistant at Tilghman High School in Paducah, Ky., from 1976-78 before returning to UK. He was a part-time assistant coach in 1979, working with the defensive backs, and was a full-time assistant as the DBs coach in 1980-81.From there, the trail wound through Morehead State (1982), Western Kentucky (1983-88), Northeast Louisiana (1989), East Carolina (1990-91), Georgia Tech (1992-93), Cincinnati (1994), Wisconsin (1995-96), Baylor (1997-98), Oklahoma State (1999-2000), Illinois (2001-03), Louisville (2004-07) and Marshall (2009-11).Cassity was the defensive coordinator during his term at Louisville. Inheriting a unit that was 93rd in the nation in total defense and 72nd in scoring defense in 2003, the team improved to 15th in total defense and 24th in scoring defense in Cassity’s first season in 2004. His teams finished in the top 40 nationally in total defense from 2004-06.Cassity helped the Cardinals win the 2004 Conference USA championship and the 2006 Big East title and advance to three bowl games, highlighted by a victory in the 2007 Orange Bowl. In the Orange Bowl campaign, Louisville finished second in the nation in quarterback sacks and 17th nationally in scoring defense.Cassity was named the 2007 Big East Recruiter of the Year by SI.com/Rivals.com and was chosen one of the nation’s top-25 recruiters by Rivals.com in 2005."
Most pundits now say that Shabazz Muhammad is a Kentucky lean, but a couple of guys over at ESPN make the “bold” prediction that Muhammad will choose UNLV:
"12. Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) swingman Shabazz Muhammad, the No. 1 recruit in the ESPNU 100, will make fans in his hometown rejoice by choosing to stay home and play college basketball for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas."
And finally …. we all love former Wildcat WR Stevie Johnson. But a Buffalo Bills fan showed his love for #13 in a new way. He got a tattoo of Johnson with “Why so serious” shaved in his head on his bicep. Who is going to be the first to get that MKG tattoo on their forehead?
