WBN Weekend Wrap Up: Louisville's Excuse

Cats 69-Cards 62

The fact that Kentucky won a close, sloppy, foul filled slugfest of a game does not diminish the fact that the Wildcats were clearly the better team on the floor in Rupp Arena. I do think that Louisville ran a game plan perfectly in order to win. They fouled, they hacked, they hustled and they caused the game to come to a screeching halt. Despite that, UK won on Louisville’s terms.

The Louisville fans are not giving up the ghost though. They are claiming that the better team did not win on New Years Eve. They believe that the referees are the reason for the loss. They didn’t lose because Kentucky out rebounded them 57-31, or because UK had three players score in double figures while Louisville had only one, or that two of UK’s players had double-doubles and Louisville had none, or because Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had 19 rebounds while the combination of Gorgui Dieng, Rakeem Buckles and Chane Behanan had 12. They lost because of the refs. Give me a break.

This is why playing Louisville is a lose/lose situation for Kentucky. If Kentucky loses, then we hear trash talking non-stop from the Cardinal faithful. If Kentucky wins, like they did yesterday, Louisville fans still will not shut up and concede that the better team won and will find any excuse they can (refs) to explain why it is that Kentucky won and Louisville lost. This fits the Little Brother Syndrome argument perfectly.

If I had it my way we would never play those bums again. What’s the point? The Cards are 4-6 in the last 10 meetings against Kentucky  and 29-14 all time. Enough is enough. I am tired of the excuses, the complaints, the whining and the moaning.

IU Beats #2 Ohio State

I was honestly torn while watching this game. I wanted badly for the Hoosiers to lose so that those maniacs in Assembly Hall would have a rotten New Years Eve. I also wanted OSU to lose so that UK would climb the rankings to #2. After the IU fans started throwing things on to the floor during the game I was cheering my heart out for the Buckeyes. I cannot take those Hoosier pricks.

Alas, the bad guys won and they surprisingly did not storm the court. The Wildcats will be #2 in the polls and IU might even creep up into the top 10 despite a 15 point beat down on the road in Lansing, Michigan. I don’t think the Hoosiers will do any better than the fourth or fifth best team in the Big 10 by season’s end, as we have only seen them play on the road in their conference once and it was a blow out. I’m curious to see how they do away from that insane asylum full of inbred rednecks they call home.

Jorts Makes his NBA starting Debut

One year from the day that Josh Harrellson made his big splash in college hoops, he went and did the same thing in the professional ranks. Jorts scored his first NBA double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He outplayed his former UK team-mate and first round draft pick DeMarcus Cousins.

I was Team Boogie, and he didn’t have a bad game with nine points and ten rebounds, but you cannot say enough about the story of Josh Harrellson. He was demoralized by Billy Gillispie, he almost did not make the cut when Cal came to Lexington, he sat the bench his entire junior year, he was almost booted off the team for Twitter complaints against his head coach, he helped lead his team to a Final Four berth and he is now playing for an injured NBA superstar and doing a damn fine job of it.

Kudos to you Jorts, you make us all in the Big Blue Nation proud.

Final Dagger in the Heart

A couple more things about Louisville and then I will leave you to your morning. This has to be one of the worst weeks ever as a Cardinal fan. They lost the all mighty Belk Bowl to a mid tier ACC North Carolina State team, they lost at home to a lower ranked Georgetown team the next day, and then on New Years Eve they got beat by their most hated rivals.

Sucks to be you Cards, sucks to be you. I guess you will think long and hard about hooping and hollering with joy when the Cats lose by a last second Hail Mary three to Indiana.

This week couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch of jerks.

Happy New Year, Kentucky Fans! 2012 should be a doozy.
