What is Jay William's beef with Terrence Jones?

facebooktwitterreddit

Maybe it’s me, but I kind thought that ESPN’s Jay William’s comments on Kentucky Wildcat forward Terrence Jones were a bit odd and out of place.  Kentucky was in control at the half in a game that Jones did not play in because of a dislocated finger.  Instead of talking about the Kentucky players who did play, Williams dumped on Jones saying he needed to be “a man” and took some shots at his perceived attitude problems.  And after the game, Williams took to the same tangent and blasted Jones some more.

I can’t say that I am happy with Jone’s performance in the Indiana game, but it was a week and a half ago.  And I am willing to  forgive ONE BAD GAME. And calling out TJ’s manhood was just kind of … weird.   Williams was so proud of himself that he took to twitter to re-broadcast his thoughts:

Was just on ESPN saying that #Kentucky will NOT win a National Title unless Terrence Jones starts to play like a “MAN”.

Apparently the in-class room grades for John Calipari’s Wildcats are in and the GPA number is said to be 2.70.  Calipari’s third team falls a bit behind last years squad in the classroom, but nowhere near the 2009-2010 squad.  Calipari’s first team posted a 2.018 Fall GPA and a 2.25 Spring mark.  Last year, the team had a 2.824 Fall GPA and a 3.14 Spring mark.  With the average improvement from Fall to Spring, it looks like UK should be around a 3.0 in the Spring, which would put it easily in the upper half of the SEC.

Yesterday, we posted video of Nerlens Noel’s teammates speculating where Noel may end up.  Well now, Nerlens Noel speculates on where Shabazz Muhammad may end up.  He thinks either Kentucky or UCLA:

Joker Phillips received a commitment from 6’2, 175 pound WR A.J Legree from Fort White HS in Florida.  Here is what ESPN had to say about Legree:

Legree is a versatile athlete falling under the radar at this time with the top-level quickness, leaping and ball skills he displays on film. Has better than adequate size. Taller, rangy frame but is lean and will need to add significant bulk and strength. Could get recruited to play on either side of the ball but likely receiver. Speed is good not great; he can work outside and get downfield but is not a burner after the catch. As a pass catcher he shows very good hands and concentration plucking the ball away from his frame. Extends very well with his longer wingspan and catch radius. Can adjust to the difficult throw showing good athleticism and body control. Excels in the redzone on fade routes with his timing, leaping and high-point skills. Shows a good understanding of how to work a DB’s leverage. Will go up for the ball in traffic. Very savvy and crafty as a route runner. However, we feel he will need to add significant bulk and strength to continue winning the positioning battle and produce in his current possession type of role as an intermediate route runner. Not a game-breaker after the catch with great speed, strength or elusiveness. Could get a look at corner where he flashes good quickness out of his breaks and closing burst. Shows good production on perimeter run and pass support. Displays good footwork mirroring receivers in and out of their cuts and has more than adequate hips and turns. We do not see lock-down, man-to-man skill-set or speed to project high at the major college level but he does have some tools to develop, particularly in zone schemes. Overall. Legree offers some versatility and upside and may be sleeper heading into his senior season.

I realize that it may still be 2013 or 2014 before we see any ground being broken for the renovation of Rupp Arena, but I really can’t get over how cool this thing is going to look if the current plans hold up:

Architectural consultant Gary Bates and his Olso, Norway-based firm, SpaceGroup, on Saturday presented a design that required thinking, quite literally, outside the box. Bates’ vision is to strip away the industrial siding that currently makes Rupp look like a metal cube – Bates recently called it “a shed” – and replace it with a “translucent skin” that would allow people outside to see in. Bates calls the concept “freeing Rupp.”

“You have the kind of wrapped box, which doesn’t give you any idea about what’s happening inside of it. I don’t think that’s interesting,” he said. “That’s what’s exciting about introducing the idea of transparency, expanding the inclusivity. It would be great to see people moving around … to see that blue color coming from Big Blue Madness, seeing that emanating into the outdoor space.”

Bates’ concept includes a “screening area,” similar to the Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium, where as many as 10,000 fans without tickets could watch the game on giant screens from just outside Rupp.
