Thursday 12/15/11
Jaguars at Falcons (NFL Football) 8:20 PM on NFL Network
The Falcons are still in the NFC Wildcard hunt with a record of 8-5. The team has been performing at a high level over the past couple of weeks. Head coach Mike Smith’s job has been questioned due to a bone head play call on Thanksgiving day. The Jags lost their head coach but put up 41 points on the Bucs just one week later. I think the Falcons will win but it won’t be easy.
Friday 12/16/11
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked-Agonizing Children’s Film
Did we really need another one of these awful movies? I didn’t think so. But there are no sports on Friday, so this may be your only option unless you have a DVR full of goodies you need to catch up on. I recommend you do that rather than waste your money on animated rodents. The sad part is that this will be the #1 movie in the country on Monday.
Saturday 12/17/11
Ashley Judd’s new boyfriend will be ready to play
UT Chattanooga at #3 Kentucky (College Basketball) 8:00 PM on ESPN 3
UT Chattanooga has three wins on the season and seven losses, one of those being to Indiana. The Hoosiers beat them 78-53. The Wildcats will be in a foul mood after losing their first game. Terrence Jones will be ready to tear the rim off of the goal after being called out by fans and national pundits. Also, we will get to see Twany Beckham for the first time. The Cats will roll and win 90-52. Take that, Hooisers.
Memphis at #4 Louisville (College Basketball) 4:00 PM on CBS
What was thought to be Louisville’s first real test against a very athletic team doesn’t look to be very tough. Memphis has lost three games against Michigan by 12, Georgetown by 2 in overtime and most recently Murray State. All three of those teams are ranked at the mid to lower end of the top 25 while Memphis was pre-season #8. Memphis is no longer ranked. Louisville will play defense and sputter on offense and look underwhelming as usual, but will eke out a win. I hate Louisville so damn much.
#22 Texas A &M at #13 Florida (College Basketball) 2:30 PM
Nobody can accuse Florida for playing a weak schedule as this is their third ranked opponent so far. They have two losses (Ohio State and Syracuse) and will be looking to defeat a ranked team for the first time. A&M will be another difficult test for the Gators, luckily it will be in the Swamp, Jr. and the annoying Rowdy Reptiles will urge the home team to victory in this future SEC battle preview.
FYI: The First of About 50 Lame Bowl Games (College Football)
Temple vs. Wyoming- Barf
San Diego State vs. Louisiana Lafayette- Who Cares?
Ohio at Utah State- These schools have football teams?
If you are watching these games over some great college basketball match ups, then you have some issues. Somebody let me know when the Big Boys start playing.
Sunday 12/18/11
Patriots at Broncos (NFL Football) 4:15 PM on CBS
The biggest story in the NFL should be the Green Bay Packers as they are on a quest to go undefeated for the first time since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. That is being eclipsed by the phenomenon know as “The Tebow”. The Broncos are 7-1 since he became quarterback, losing only to the Lions. Their competition has not been stellar. Wins against a wounded Bears team, the hapless Vikings, the inconsistent Jets, the Dolphins, the under achieving Chargers the awful Chiefs and the Raiders all pale in comparison to test they will face when Bill Bellichick and the Brady Bunch roll into Denver. This game will shake out in one of two ways: The Pats put an epic beat down on the Broncos or the game will be close in the fourth quarter and Tebow does what Tebow does best: pull off an improbable victory.
Steelers at 49ers (NFL Football) 8:20 PM on NBC
The “49ers are Back” World Tour hit a snag last week as San Fran was stunned by the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Apparently running back Frank Gore isn’t 100%. I can understand him being a little banged up since he has been in the league for 50 years now. Big Ben is also injured for the Steelers and all around bad game James Harrison is suspended for this game for a dirty hit on poor ole’ Colt McCoy of the Browns. I expect the Niners to get back to their winning ways and challenge the Saints for the two seed in the playoffs.
Alright couch potatoes, enjoy watching all of these sporting contests this weekend. Go Cats! Boo Cards! Hooray for Alvin!
