2013 recruit Chris Thomas lists Kentucky Wildcats in his top five

There is not a lot of recruiting news around the holidays but we have learned that 2013’s Chris Thomas still lists the Kentucky Wildcats in his top five teams.  Thomas, who is the number one SG in the class has expanded his top three of Kentucky, Florida, and Xavier to a top five and added Missouri and Iowa State to the mix.  Thomas is not expected to make his decision until May.

Over the past year or so, this site has taken shots as the Courier Journal’s Rick Bozich, so we have to try to recognize him when we actually agree what he writes as well.  Seems that Bozich was one of the four AP voters who still gave Kentucky a first place vote in the latest poll and he voted the home town Cards seventh (which we also agree with).  Bozich explains his voting strategy:

Sorry, all losses are not created equal. I exited the Knee-Jerk Highway and did not vote Syracuse No. 1 simply because Kentucky lost to Indiana at the buzzer in the most hostile atmosphere I’ve seen in a decade. I did not dock Ohio State for losing at Kansas without Jared Sullinger, the Buckeyes’ most irreplaceable player.

I kept John Calipari’s team in the top spot because I believe the Wildcats are the same team regardless of whether Christian Watford’s shot went in or not. It’s a formidable group that has a home win against North Carolina and a neutral court win over Kansas. Ohio State remains second on my ballot.

Looks like “Renovate Rupp” is going to end up winning over “Replace Rupp” in the ongoing Rupp Arena debate.  And I have to say that I am more than OK with that.  I am, of course, still riding the wave of nostalgia due to  a recent visit to Rupp for the first time in several years.  I expected to find a half decimated shell of the former building, but am pleased to say that Rupp has held up well over the years and you still get that tingling of history when you walk into the place.  And a new, sanitized Rupp will replace that.

Is Rupp perfect?  No.  Could it be drastically improved by throwing some money at its flaws?  Yes.  There was a flurry of announcements from UK and Lexington mayor Jim Gray yesterday and I admit, I am too confused to make proper sense of it. The big question now seem to center on who will actually pay for this now.   Kyle Tucker gets paid to do so however, and here is what he had to write on the latest developments

I have to admit that it’s hard to find five stories to link today that are not lamenting the Indiana.  Seems some sites are still breaking down the IU game ad nauseum and I am trying to steer clear of that.  So I will just say that Coach Cals.com Guy Ramsey has a report from UK’s practice on Monday and that it is time to “Bounce Back”.

Those who read the site and listen to the podcasts know my views on Tim Tebow.  And I am reserving final judgement of him until next year.  But the fact remains that Tebow is one of the most polarizing athletes of our day.  But in a sure sign of a Tebow pre-Festivus miracle, our very own Zach Rosen and Rick Pitino seem to have strikingly similar views on the Tebow effect.  And when are Zach and Pitino going to be close to agreeing on anything?

Yet Eric Crawford sent some tweets son Pitino quotes that were similar to Zach’s article.  A Festivus coincidence indeed.

Pitino on Tebow: “All you atheists out there, watch Tim Tebow and you’ll believe. … He has to be getting help from a higher power …

Pitino on Tebow, cont. “You watch him out there and he can’t complete a pass — then Jesus comes out of the sky and he’s hitting everything”

There are just four days left to join the WBN’s College Bowl Mania group on ESPN.  If we can get enough to join up, I will throw a gift card into the mix, so sign up now.  We need to get to at least 50 people for me to open my wallet though.  So go here to join.
