WBN's Weekend Watch List: Dickie V. and Ole Roy come to Rupp

Since the regular season in college football is over, I had to find something else to post for you at midnight on Thursday. So, I came up with this: a look at sporting and entertainment events for your weekend viewing pleasure, mostly centered around UK of course.

I will be doing this on a weekly basis. If you hate it then is sucks to be you. Just kidding. I hope we can still be friends.

Thursday 12/01/11

St. John’s at #1 Kentucky (Basketball) 7:30 PM on ESPN2

This is the biggie on Thursday night. The SEC/Big East challenge kicks of with the Johnnies coming to Rupp to try to topple the Cats off of their #1 ranking. Dick Vitale will be along for the ride and I am sure he will be telling everybody how much he loves Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Coach Cal, and for no particular reason, Coach K.

Georgetown at #12 Alabama (Basketball) 9:30 PM on ESPN2

‘Bama welcomes it’s first real competition by welcoming the Hoyas into Tuscaloosa. Hopefully the Tide can do their part and fend of the Evil Empire that is Big East basketball.

Eagles at Seahawks (Football) 8:20 PM on NFL Network

Does anyone really care about two teams with lame bird mascots that aren’t going to the playoffs? I didn’t think so. Especially while the Wildcats are playing. I guess it’s a good third option between two awesome college hoops games. If you are in to poultry.

Friday 12/02/11

#9 Florida at #3 Syracuse (Basketball) 7:00 PM on ESPN

The Gators have lost one game and that was a close one to #2 Ohio State, who completely manhandled Duke. The Orange haven’t really played anybody except a down Stanford team and only beat them by 6. I don’t like Florida but I dislike Syracuse even more, mostly because Jim Boehiem is a complete jerk that opens his big fat mouth too often. Was that too harsh? No, it wasn’t harsh enough.

#19 Vanderbilt at #6 Louisville (Basketball) 9:00 PM on ESPN

Vanderbilt lost to #11 Xavier and powerhouse Cleveland State. Louisville is undefeated but have played absolutely nobody. Don’t believe me? Check out some of the teams they have faced thus far: Arkansas State, Butler (this year’s addition, not the good Butler), Ohio and Lamar. Not one ranked team in the bunch. Vandy will be their first test. Let’s see how they handle it.

Saturday 12/03/11

#5 North Carolina at #1 Kentucky (Basketball) 12:00 PM on CBS

What was supposed to be #1 vs. #2 is now #1 vs. #5, thanks to UNC throwing up a clunker against UNLV. Expect Rupp to be rockin’ and full of media as well as NBA scouts as these two titans of college basketball clash. Will Harrison Barnes play? Can this game live up to the hype? Who will MKG posterize? Will Roy Williams openly weep after the game, win or lose? Tune in and find out.

#14 Georgia vs. #1 LSU (College Football) 4:00 PM on CBS

This is for all the marbles. The SEC Championship game. Can the Pride of the SEC East take out the Pride of the SEC West? Don’t count on it. I’m looking for a blow out here. A big one. Like, 20 points or more. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

#1o Oklahoma at #3 Oklahoma State (College Football) 8:00 PM on ABC

Remember when this game mattered and these two teams were looking at the BCS Championship game?

Cincinnati at UConn (College Football) 12:21 PM on ESPN

OK, I know you won’t be watching this game, neither will I, but say a little prayer that the Bearcats win so we won’t have to listen to the Dirty Birds flap their wings about a BCS Bowl that they backed their way into. K, thanks.

Sunday 12/04/11

#10 Louisville at #12 Kentucky (Women’s College Basketball) 1:00 PM

Want an early rivalry game fix? The undefeated Lady Cats welcome the one loss Lady Cards to Memorial Coliseum. The game is sold out, so any hopes in watching our girls whip up on theirs are out the window if you don’t have a ticket. Lately, the Cards have owned our beloved Cats. Can’t wait to see these girls get it on. How dare you think like that?

Broncos at Vikings (NFL Football) 1:00 PM on Fox

Don’t forget to tune in to watch Paul Jordan’s favorite NFL player extend his record to 6-1 as a starter against the hapless Vikings. We love you Tim Tebow. We need you Tim Tebow.

Colts at Patriots (NFL Football) 1:00 PM on CBS

Peyton Manning brings his high scoring offense to meet Tom Brady and his high scoring offense in a clash of the best in the AFC. Wait…What? This isn’t 2005? Peyton Manning has been injured all season and the Colts are 0-11? The Pats are a 21 point favorite? Never mind. Skip this one for Tim Tebow.

Lions at Saints (NFL Football) 8:20 PM on NBC

The Saints might put up a hundy on the Suh-less Lions. Drew Brees is gonna pick ’em apart with the lack of a rushing attack. Is it just me or do the Lions get on your nerves as well because of their excessive cockiness?

Enjoy this weekend in sports. It’s a doozy if you are a UK fan.
