Friday I do something I’ve yet to do in all my time of being a UK fan. I do to the away stadium to watch the beloved Kentucky Wildcats in action. While Kentucky rests at being a 39 point underdog (no pun intended with the picture above) I thought it would only be fitting if yours truly did the “What I Hate About You” this morning. Let’s get right too it.
Disclaimer: Georgia is actually one of the SEC schools I cheer for when we aren’t playing them. So here goes nothing:
Something that I really hate about Georgia is their head coach situation. Year in and year out we all start hearing whispers about Mark Richt’s job status because he drops two games to two ranked teams. While I agree Georgia football should be atop the college football mountain, their winning tradition and fans at times measure up with Kentucky basketball fans, lay off it already with the coach, either you love him, or you don’t.
I agree Georgia should not have lost their bowl game last year to Central Florida or whoever they played, nor should they have lost in the regular season to Colorado, but at the beginning of the season…Losing to Boise State and South Carolina isn’t terrible…A handful of schools would be 0-2 at that point. Now that Georgia is sitting pretty to win the SEC east, now the school is looking to give Richt an extension. Get your coaching situation under control, either you love him or you don’t….
Another thing I hate about Georgia? Their delusional fan base thinking that Sanford Stadium is loud and a tough place to place. While I can’t wait to see the beauty of Athens and watch the game “between the hedges”, let’s face it, compared to other stadiums in the SEC, Sanford Stadium just doesn’t come close to a rocking “Swamp” or heck, even Ole Miss when they have a DECENT team. I would rank Georgia somewhere in the middle of toughest places to place in the SEC, and not even in the top 25 in the nation, yet the fans think it’s impossible to win there. It’s not that impressive.
I hate how Georgia has a McDonald’s All America playing for them in basketball through the week but the people of Georgia has no clue what a basketball is until their underachieving football season is over with. It’s like they turn a blind eye to football. Maybe Kentucky fans do the same thing to football during basketball season, but jeez it looks like a small portion of Sanford Stadium would be like, “hmm, guess we should support to basketball team” but no, the gym is empty unless Kentucky rolls around. Come on guys…
Last but not least. I hate how I have a soft spot in my heart for Georgia just because of the live mascot, UGA. I hate how these dogs have such a health problem that they can’t keep one for more than a year without having to get another, but I hate how much I love these little guys. Right now, “Russ” is a fill in for UGA, but he’s just as awesome, and just as cute. So, yeah….I hate that I have a softspot for animals, and he’s more friendly than Mike the Tiger from LSU…I’ve met him too, not as friendly for sure.
