WBN College Football Wrap Up

A New Low

I am not going to spend a lot of time going over this game because frankly it has been covered already. All I can say is that this was a new low for Kentucky football. Look, I know Vanderbilt is pretty good this year, but they are not 30 points better than the Wildcats.

38-8 is inexcusable. I’m done defending Joker Phillips and the rest of the coaching staff. Week by week the players look ill prepared to start a game. Ever since Joker has taken over, UK has gone into the half with a lead in an SEC game only one time and that was last week against Ole Miss.

Phillips will not be fired at the end of the year but you can bank on a midseason firing next year if changes are not made. I am shocked that a few heads have not already rolled, namely Steve Brown and Randy Sanders. I don’t expect them to be back next year. Somebody has to take the fall.

Cards Luck Runs Out

Yes, Louisville won three straight games, including one game against top 25 ranked West Virginia. But just because a Big East team is ranked does not mean that team is any good. Louisville lost to Pitt 21-14 but that score is deceptive. The Panthers controlled the entire game and the score was 21-7 until Louisville scored in the waning seconds of the game.

The Cards are now at 5-5 and have to travel to UConn and South Florida to end the season. If they played the way they did Saturday then a bowl game will not be in the Cards for this team (hardy har har). Even if they do go 6-6, I really don’t see why anyone would give a bowl game to a team that lost to Marshall and FIU.

Stanford and Boise State Exposed

Our national nightmare is over. Stanford and Boise State will definitely not play in the BCS title game after losing this weekend. Stanford was absolutely blasted by the Oregon Ducks 53-30 and the Broncos lost a heart breaker to TCU 36-35.

Look at it this way: Oregon was destroyed by LSU the first game of the season on a neutral field and Boise lost to a mediocre TCU team. Neither Stanford or Boise State play any real competition during the regular season and they were finally exposed. If Boise played in a real conference like the SEC, the Big 12, the Big 10 or even the Pac 12, they would not be undefeated year in and year out.

As for Stanford, the Pac 12 is decent, but it’s probably the fourth best conference in the country. Things seem to be shaping up the way they should as the teams that are left in the top five of the BCS looks as if they belong there.

BCS Top 10 Poll

Now that the pretenders are gone, the real contenders are moving towards the top of the rankings.

1. LSU

2. Oklahoma State

3. Alabama

4. Oregon

5. Oklahoma

6. Arkansas

7. Clemson

8. Virginia Tech

9. Stanford

10. Boise State

Conference Count: SEC 3, ACC 2, Big 12 2, Pac 12 2, and Boise State.

The teams with the best shot of playing in the national title game are 1-5, any teams ranked below that are extreme long shots. If Arkansas played in the SEC East then they would probably be ranked in the top 5 and they would be in this conversation as well.

NFL Note: If you watched the Bears vs. the Lions yesterday you were treated to one of the most physical and dirty games of the season. Jeff Drummond said it best when he posted on Facebook that a hockey game broke out on the football field. Matthew Stafford started the fight out of frustration of throwing four interceptions as the Bears blew out the Lions. Check it out as Stafford does a UFC style take down and then the Bears respond:

Picks

I’m going to stop picking UK to win. I have to. I did go 4-2 on the week and I rightly picked the Bears blowing out the Lions, much to my wife’s pleasure. It’s good times in my house whenever the Bears, the Bulls, the Cubs or the Blackhawks win.

I’m 38-17 heading into the last two weeks of the regular seasn.

The Week to Come

I will opt to watch the UK basketball game live and cover it for the site as opposed to watching the football beat down at Georgia. Look for this score to be as bad as the ones against LSU, Florida and South Carolina. The Bulldogs are playing their best football of the season and the Cats will run into a buzz saw in Athens on Saturday.

The Cards will be on the road against an awful Husky team but you never know what will happen in the Big East.

Other key games will be Oklahoma at Baylor, Stanford will welcome a talented Cal team, Kansas State will meet Texas and Nebraska will face Michigan.

Check back all day long. Monday is “James Day” on the site as I appear three times. I will see you again with your 4 PM headlines. Stay Breezy, Big Blue Nation.
