NBA Headed for canceled Season
The NBA lockout has now lasted 137 days, one day longer that the NFL lockout. Talks broke down between the NBAPA and the owners again today as the NBAPA is looking to disband.
Both sides, the players and the owners, are blaming each other for what looks like the end of the 2011-2012 NBA season. The owners keep proposing deals and the players continue to reject them. The biggest argument that is setting everything back is the revenue sharing. The owners have proposed a 50-50 sharing deal, which the players rejected, so the owners countered with a worse deal of 47% for the players and 53% for the owners. Read more about the ins and outs of this whole situation here.
Everything now is speculation but I am sure the NBA will not look the same as it does right now. One of the talking points is a two year mandatory college stay, which would help John Calipari and the University of Kentucky.
And what about the rookies? I would have to say that Brandon Knight and DeAndre Liggins are kicking themselves for opting not to stay at Kentucky and try for a title. On the other hand, Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb must be feeling pretty happy about where they are at this point.
Whatever happens it looks pretty certain that the NBA will not be tipping off this season.
Headlines:
-Congrats to Anthony Davis for nabbing the first SEC freshman of the week award of the year. He will be swapping this honor with Mike Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague and Kyle Wiltjer all season long.
-John Calipari is doing his best job to play reverse psychology with his team. He stated, “I just don’t know if we’re ready to play a team like Kansas.” While I disagree, I can understand what he is doing here and I applaud him. This young team cannot go into MSG tomorrow night thinking they will run this team and win by 50 like they have been. If they do, they are likely to get beat. Guys like Teague and Kidd-Gilchrist seem like players that want to be underdogs and play with that chip on their shoulders.
-Doron Lamb does not totally agree with his coach. Lamb is known for his confidence and said he is ready to make a “statement” and show people “we’re the best team in the country.” I want to see the same thing Doron.
-I would like to say that Vanderbilt spent more money on their football program than UK this year and it showed on Saturday. That’s all I am going to say about football.
-In other college B-ball news: Mike Marra is out for the season with an ACL tear for Louisville; be glad we got Anthony Davis and not Andre Drummond; Vanderbilt got pasted at home by THE Cleveland State University 71-58, is anyone still picking them to top UK for the SEC?; the new AP top 25 is out and UK still sits at #2, Louisville rises to #7 and Vanderbilt drops all the way to #19.
That is all for now. Check back with me at midnight when I examine which teams deserve the “Nation” tag?
