WBN Games of the Week: Battle for the SEC's Worst

facebooktwitterreddit

Ole Miss (2-6) at Kentucky (3-5): Saturday November 5th, 3:30 PM
What more can we say about this game? Both teams stink; both teams have yet to log their first win in the SEC; both teams have one of the worst offenses in the NCAA; and both teams have coaches on the hot seat.

Kentucky will most likely see true freshman Max Smith make his first official start Saturday afternoon against a Rebel defense that is allowing 30 points a game. Hopefully Smith can rekindle some mojo on the offensive side of the ball. For whatever reason it seemed as if the running backs ran harder, the line blocked better and the wide receivers ran better routes while he was taking snaps.

Joker has yet to name a starter. This is probably to A). Keep Ole Miss on their toes and B). To not totally kill Morgan Newton’s confidence; whatever is left of it. But make no mistake; the fans want to see Maxwell Smith and they probably will see Maxwell Smith.

I firmly believe that the team that loses this game will not win a game in the SEC for the rest of the season and will more than likely fire their head coach at season’s end. Houston Nutt will pretty much have to run the table to save his job and Joker has to win at least one SEC game.

At the end of the day, I think the Cats win. Barely.

Louisville Cardinals (4-4) at #24 West Virginia (6-2): Saturday November 5th, 12:00 PM
Don’t look now but the Cards have won back to back Big East games for the first time in five years. That is how atrocious they have been. They actually have a lot to look forward to; their defense is playing lights out and their quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, is playing better with each game.

OK, I am done with the UofL love fest. Louisville created a mess for themselves when they tried to sabotage West Virginia’s flight to the Big 12 by bringing in a politician to do what politicians do best: lobby. Their lobbying failed and now the Mountaineers are pissed. Louisville has recommended that fans stay home and have elected to keep their cheerleaders and dance team in the Ville in fear for their safety as they expect unmerciful taunting and perhaps physical violence from WVU fans.

Now I hope West Virginia beats them by 50. Not because I like the Mountaineers, but because of Louisville’s constant whining hypocrisy and “whoa is me” attitude. All week long Louisville fans have been trading West Virginia fan horror stories, telling about their awful experiences in Morgantown. While much of it may be true, I would like to share a story of leaving Pappa John’s Cardinal stadium after a UK football victory and having beer bottles thrown and me and my friends as we walked to the car. There are morons in every fan base, cry babies.

Oh yeah, West Virginia has a better team and it is tough to beat them at home. There is your game analysis.

SEC Game of the Week: #1 LSU (8-0) at #1 Alabama (8-0): Saturday November 5th, 8 PM
It is finally here: the Game of the Century. The Crimson Tide is ready to welcome the Tigers into what will be a raucous crowd in Alabama. 600 members of the media have requested passes to attend and cover this game. This is like the Super Bowl.

You have the #1 defense in the country (Alabama) going up against the #3 defense in the country (LSU) as well as two teams in the top 15 in scoring this season. I think defense will overshadow the offense, but it will be an offensive player or players that will decide the game.

The quarterbacks will be the ones to give their respective teams the W or the L. AJ McCarron has been a steady rock for the Tide. His main duty has been to manage the offense and hand the ball off to Heisman hopeful Trent Richardson. Richardson can get behind the big elephants on the offensive line and run for days. McCarron has 10 TD’s and only 3 picks, but he is not going to be the focal point. His mistakes could de the deciding factor.

LSU has a two headed monster in Jarett Lee and Jordan Jefferson. Lee will no doubt be the starter, but Jefferson can come in at anytime and be dynamic. LSU has an even better offensive line than do the Tide and they have a stable of running backs.

I am more impressed with LSU’s wins thus far. They have defeated 5 teams in the top 25, all by large margins. In the end, the combination of Lee and Jefferson will be the deciding factor.

Non SEC Game of the Week: #14 Kansas State (7-1) at #3 Oklahoma State (8-0): Saturday November 5th, 8 PM
While the rest of the country is watching ‘Bama and LSU duke it out, fans of the Big 12 are in for a treat as the Wildcats travel to try and give the Cowboys their first loss of the season and dash their hopes of playing either one of the previously mentioned teams in the BCS Championship game.

I thought last week that Baylor may have been able to pose some sort of threat to OK State. Boy was I ever wrong. They rolled the Bears 59-24. They have scored over 50 points three times this season and have not scored under 30 at all.

K State has beaten some decent teams but was throttled by Oklahoma in their first true test of the season. I don’t see them giving OK State much of a game.

But still, anytime the Cowboys take the field it is must see TV.

Clunker of the Week: Middle Tennessee (2-5) at Tennessee (3-5): Saturday November 5th, 7 PM
The state of Tennessee football is now at about the level of the state of Kentucky football. You have the state schools that stinks (UT, UK), the city schools that stink (UL, Memphis) and the little schools that could that stink (WKU, MTU).

The Vols have not been this bad in forever. And Middle Tennessee usually is decent in football, but not this year. This game is a clash of wills against awful programs, and the Vols are sinking lower with each passing game. I would say that in any other year, UK would beat them. But not this year. Unless our boy Smith is a stud.

NFL Game of the Week: Ravens (6-2) at Steelers: Sunday November 6th, 8:20 PM
A lot has happened since the first game when the Ravens embarrassed the Steelers in Baltimore 35-7. The Ravens have lost to not so great teams Like the Titans and the Jaguars while the Steelers have beaten Super Bowl contenders Patriots.

Mike Tomlin and his team remembers the beat down. They will have something ready for the uneven Ravens offense. The Baltimore D will be the Baltimore D, but Big Ben is in a groove right now. He has thrown 11 touchdowns in his last 4 games.

This slobberknocker is always a hard fought, bloody mess of a game. Blood is bad and moods are rotten.
